		Freak Magnet uses a bit more electric guitar than the Femmes are known for, and the result is a harder edge.
		While critics have been known to cringe at the band's sound (the predominantly acoustic attack of their previous work can be a bit trying), there should be none of that here.
		Chances are the song you'll be hearing most is "Sleepwalkin'," which opens with the lyrics, "Someone suck me, late last evening, and it was time to make a change." Just the kind of song for the sequel to "American Pie." It's frenetic, upbeat, and typical Femmes.

		I guess they're something of an acquired taste, but this is nonetheless a welcome return from one of the '80s great bands, the Violent Femmes dragging those long-term memories back into the short-term with such vitality you wonder if they've just been practising all this time.
		Gano's lyrics are as dryly witty, overtly sexy, subconsciously bizarre as ever, and either sneeringly spat out on the noisy fast ones, or delicately curled with a regretful yet ever-hopeful whine over the pretty slow ones.
		These latter, the almost-love songs "All I Want" and "When You Died", are often quite beautiful, in a girl-next-door sense, providing perfect momentary respite from the energy rush of "Sleepwalkin'", "Freak Magnet", and the aptly-named "Mosh Pit".
