Topic: Freca

  Freca - Tolkien Gateway
Freca was a lord of far western Rohan, who was descended from King Fréawine.
Freca's family and followers fled from Helm's anger, but four years later Wulf returned, invading Rohan with an army of Dunlendings, an invasion in which Helm was killed.
Nevertheless, the slaying of Freca was not forgotten by his people, and even at the time of the War of the Ring, more than two hundred and fifty years later, the memory of his death still kindled hatred of the Rohirrim among the Dunlendings.

Appendix A of the LOTR describes the killing of Freca, a chieftain in Rohan, by his liege lord, King Helm of Rohirrim, for daring to ask for the king's daughter's hand in marriage for his son.
The justification for the murder is the uppity aspirations of the insubordinate vassal.
But it is also mentioned that Freca had "much Dunlendish blood and was dark-haired" - in other words, he is in part descended from a race which is not on the "good" side, and this fact seems to overshadow his Edain heritage.
