The great cinematography by William Daniels shows why this genius behind the camera was one of the best in the business.
Frederic March is a little flat as Vronsky, dressed in his military uniform in almost every scene, but manages to do well with the character nonetheless.
Frederic March brings no passion to the role of Vronsky and no-one could ever believe for a minute that Anna would give up her child and position for him.

Ludovico Fantoni, sent to Vienna in the summer of 1644, proposed to exchange Władysław's income from Bohemian estates in Treben for the duchies of Opolsko-Raciborskie and Cieszyńskie (of Cieszyn).
Now the Emperor was again ready for discussion and sent Johannes Putz von Adlertum to Warsaw in April 1645, giving him wide prerogatives in transferring rights of the Duchy of Opolsko-Raciborskie to Władysław's and Cecylia Renata's son, Zygmunt Kazimierz, as an hereditary fief.

Camille (1936) - IMDb user comments   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
Fortunately, the fruits of the old studio system live on, and those who love the movies can still relish such gems as "Camille." With George Cukor guiding her performance and William Daniels lighting her face, Greta Garbo never looked better or had a finer role than Marguerite Gautier.
The word "luminous" is often over used, but it is appropriate here to describe how Garbo literally illuminates the screen with her presence throughout the film.
The imbalance was repeated from Garbo's film of the previous year, "Anna Karenina," in which again a strong, if overbearing, Basil Rathbone matched Garbo in a way that the indecisive Frederic March did not.
