Frederick County is a county located in the western part of the state of Maryland, bordering the southern border of Pennsylvania and the northeastern border of Virginia.
Frederick County is governed by county commissioners, the traditional form of county government in Maryland.
In the county the population is spread out with 27.60% under the age of 18, 7.40% from 18 to 24, 32.70% from 25 to 44, 22.60% from 45 to 64, and 9.60% who are 65 years of age or older.

Frederick Junction was the point at which a spur from the town of Frederick met the main line and, consequently, was of great strategic importance in the economic development of the Frederick vicinity and, later, in military movements during the Civil War.
Frederick County employment is projected to grow from 99,700 jobs in the year 2000 to 122,000 jobs in the year 2020, indicating a projected 22,300 new jobs over the twenty-year time period.
