The Fredericton Fort Nashwaak MLA said he's not opposed to the legislature's law amendments committee tinkering with certain aspects of the legislation.
The legislation was introduced by Liberal MLA Kelly Lamrock (Fredericton-Fort Nashwaak) in response to the mauling death of James Waddell in 2003.
The Fredericton woman, who is confined to a wheelchair after a life-long battle with polio, said she supports tougher laws addressing backyard breeders, encouraging more education about dogs in schools and beefing up laws targeting irresponsible dog owners.

 Fredericton
Since Fredericton, unlike Saint John, was not prone to sea attacks; was easily accessible by the St. John River; surrounded by excellent farming land and forests; and was central in the province, the British Government quickly approved Carleton's choice.
The Fredericton area was not settled again until 1732 when a group of French Acadians, fleeing the British forces who had taken possession of Nova Scotia by the Treaty of Utrecht, made their way to the St. John River Valley.
In 1983, to mark the 200th anniversary of the Loyalist landing in Fredericton, another monument was erected by the United Empire Loyalists Society in front of the Old Burial Ground on Brunswick Street.

Pit Bull Forums - Bad dog law won't work, committee hears
More than 30 people offered their opinions about Bill 55 on Tuesday, the first of a two-day hearing on legislation proposed by Fredericton Fort-Nashwaak MLA Kelly Lamrock.
Fredericton SPCA president Janet Jenkins agrees that dogs need to be controlled, but says targeting specific breeds is not the answer.
Cheryl Egerton of the Fredericton Kennel Club also says Bill 55 is a bad idea, and the province needs to simply dedicate more money to enforce the animal control laws already in place.

Fredericton-Fort Nashwaak MLA Kelly Lamrock is another quip-meister whose comments give teeth to the term "sound bite." Reporters reached for their pens as Lamrock rose to make his first remarks about how the Conservatives allow Liberal ideas to die on the order paper and then resurrect them months later in the Throne Speech.

Burke, a successful lawyer with two university degrees, says the taunts have included calling him "Tonto" and "teepee," or asking if he can go and shoot a moose.

The tour begins in Fredericton, in Carleton Park at the corner of Union and Gibson Streets, where you will see a cairn indicating the site of Fort Nashwaak.
This pretty gothic church replaced the old St. Peter's which built in 1827, was the first Anglican church on the Nashwaak, and was for many years the parish church of St. Mary's.
This was one of the very early church buildings on the Nashwaak.

 Fredericton-Fort Nashwaak
Fort Nashwaak should stay blue on election night, but, like with Fredericton North, if Shawn Graham builds up enough momentum it could go red.
In any event, Fort Nashwaak is one of the most weirdly drawn ridings in the province, taking in two parts of the city that really don't have much to do with each other.
The NDP is running Penny Erichson, and while it would be difficult for her to win, she may certainly influence how the vote goes.

The Nashwaak from Stanley to Fredericton
Anyway, we finally pulled in just past the Fort Nashwaak motel on the Saint John River just as the sun was setting, and I was met by my understandably distraught wife.
The Nashwaak flows through the center of Stanley here, but there are no signs the community is just over the bank after the first turn or so under the Stanley bridge.
Here we are, two springs later, picking up where we left off on the Nashwaak, except this time it's Biff and I. We put in behind the fire station in Stanley, the same spot where my two brothers, Shane and I, took out after our three-day run down from Nashwaak Lake two years ago.
