Tornado Insider - News - French ISP Free Plans IPO
Free, the French ISP majority owned by multimedia holding company Iliad, will potentially seek an IPO before the end of the year, the company's general director said today.
One thing Free is not considering is a totally free service where users pay neither communications charges nor ISP fees to access the Internet for a limited amount of time each month, already offered by the likes of Infonie and Liberty Surf in France.
The subscription-free ISP went public in March, attaining a high of 75.2 euros, before plunging to a low of 27.6 euros in May. The shares were trading around 31 euros today.

The (French) Association of ISPs (AFA — Association des Fournisseurs d'Accès et de Services Internet) defines an active account as one that has been used in the past ninety days.
In a truly fluffy marketing statement, Freesbee claims that it is spending FF 28 million (about $4 million) "to change the nature of the ISP simply by providing solutions for the problems encountered by Internauts (surfers)" ("de révolutionner le discours d'un provider simplement en répondant aux questions que se posent les internautes").
A recent article that appeared on france.internet.com showed that LibertySurf, France's top free ISP, has a significant lead over Freesbee, with about 610,000 subscribers in eight European nations, of which about 338,000 subscribers had used their account in the last 40 days.

Not really surprising given the fact that all stakeholders are contemplating the issue and that it would obviously make sense for an alternative operator promoting a multi-play strategy.
