The creation of the Free Church of Scotland in 1843 was similar to the conflicts between Christianity and liberalism that took place later on in the Netherlands and in the United States resulting in the creation of the Gereformeerde Kerken der Nederlanden (GKN) and the Presbyterian Church of America.
The Free Presbyterians acknowledge that there were some problems in the church, but contend that the church was overwhelmingly sound, and that the split was caused by a few extremists.

The historical significance of the Declaratory Act is that it was the formal reason for the separation of the Free Presbyterians from the Free Church of Scotland in 1893.
Instead of this, the Free Church, in order to please the fickle tastes of carnal men has traitorously lowered the standard of accepted truth, and weakened down the saving doctrines of the Gospel, so that they shall be powerless for any spiritual good to this or future generations.
In the Presbyterian Church scope has certainly been given to Christian laymen to exercise their gifts both in public prayer and public address, but it has never been affirmed that it was the duty of all such thus to make known the Gospel.

 Our History - Presbyterian Reformed Church
In 1912 the congregation was received into the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland, and called a minister from Scotland to be their pastor.
Already in 1901 several groups of Presbyterians in the nearby Ontario communities of Lochalsh, Kincardine, East Williams and Brucefield, petitioned the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland to be recognized as a part of the mission field under its care and jurisdiction.
In 1965, with both churches having settled pastors, Murray was successful in bringing the two congregations together as a presbytery, so that the unity which belongs to the body of Christ might come to expression in the government of the church.

 Burning Bush - The Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster marks its Jubilee
The imprisonment of three ministers of the Free Presbyterian Church in 1966, was the occasion of a further and much more widespread arousing of Ulster to the dangers and directions of Ecumenism.
Their defence was that they had taken part in an annual protest march and picket of the General Assembly of the Irish Presbyterian Church for which police permission was granted, and that march had been stopped by the police at the point where the alleged unlawful assembly had taken place.
Free Presbyterian ministers were hard-pressed to meet the demands of Christians in many places, wishing to organise meetings where the facts would be told and where the Word of God for the time would be preached.

The separation of the conservatives that separated from the old Free Church in 1893 (in what is termed ‘the Second Disruption’) and those that remained in it marks the difference even to this day between the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland and the Free Church of Scotland.
To the Free Presbyterians, the key issue was the form of words of the Preamble to the Act with which the Free Church rescinded the Declaratory Act, where it was said that ‘this Church adheres, as she has always adhered, to her subordinate standards’.

This was formed by Free Church dissidents in 1893 the immediate cause being the Free Church Declaratory Act which the dissidents believed to have altered the beliefs on which the Free Church was founded.
This church was marked by an especial zeal for foreign missions and constant opposition to all state aid to the the church on the grounds that this necessarily led to state control.

Pews in most churches were rented, the price rising from perhaps a dollar a year to much more, varying with proximity to the pulpit.

The Presbyterians were also represented in Cork and known as the "Scots Church." The Methodist witness in Cork was started in Cork by Charles Wesley, and later his brother John would preach often in the county.

Donations were received and by 1860, the church was debt free.
On July 25, 1869, the two congregations voted to join together and become "Union Presbyterian Church of St. Peter." The combined membership was 99, and it was decided that the place of worship would be St. Peter.
During the 1940's the men of the church excavated the basement by hand and the large Congregation Room and Kitchen were finished.

 More than 100 picket outside Westminster Presbyterian Church [Free Republic]
The Rev. Andrew McDonald, pastor of Westminster, held his own news conference at which he said the officers were exercising "their constitutional right of free speech." He praised the police department but said picketing by officers could undermine public confidence.
It's hard to see why anyone would attend a church that no longer professes the most basic of Christian values, the value of human life, but I suppose this illustrates the oft-heard point that churches in America today are mostly social gathering spots.
The Westminster Presbyterian Church obviously has not wrestled with the Scriptures nor made any attempt to rightly interpret the Word.
