The Free Zone is the name used to describe the various individuals and groups who have broken away from Scientology, but who continue to practice its beliefs and techniques in an environment free from the control of the "official" Church of Scientology.
The Church of Scientology has taken steps to suppress the Free Zone and shut it down when possible.
Because the book Scientologie was not written by Hubbard, they argue, then the Church of Scientology is exerting unfair control over its practice, and it is attempting to enforce a monopoly.

The Free Zone is the name used to describe the various individuals and groups who practice Scientology-derived beliefs and techniques in an environment free from the control of the official Church of Scientology.
''"Scientology is evil; its techniques evil; its practice a serious threat to the community, medically, morally and socially, and its adherents sadly deluded and often mentally ill." That was one conclusion found in the Report of the Board of Inquiry into Scientology for the State of Victoria, Australia in 1965.
They are special zones where (some) normal trade barriers such as import or export tariffs do not apply, bureaucracy is typically minimized by outsourcing it to the FTZ operator and corporations setting up in the zone may be given tax breaks as an additional incentive.
