FreeSBIE is a LiveCD—an operating system that is able to load directly from a bootable CD without any installation process and without any hard disk.
As of October 10, 2006 the latest version is FreeSBIE 2.0-RC1 which is a complete rewrite of the so-called toolkit.
The first version of FreeSBIE 2 was developed during the summer of 2005, thanks to Google’s Summer of Code.

Testing the ISO image, finding bugs and reporting them back to me or to the freesbie at gufi.org mailing list are the foci for those who want to give this ISO image a try, and I hope many of you will.
It will be the second in a series of four that will end with the release of FreeSBIE 2.0, which I hope will be based on FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE (may be with some additions regarding the ports) and will hopefully be released at EuroBSDCon 2006 in Milan, the 12th of November.

FreeBSD which includes FreeSBIE wants to be installed on a primary partition, called a slice when talking about BSDs.
Most likely FreeSBIE has both fdisk and cfdisk so you could use one of those to do the same.
I haven't installed FreeSBIE to hard disk so I can't say for sure but I think if you left the partition (slice) as linux (ext2) the installer will change it during the install to A5.

I was wondering how you start gnome or KDE with FreeSBIE, and I know this is a very n00b question, so please contain yourselves and answer.
I've used freesbie 1.1 and I've noticed that the live cd does not come with gnome or KDE.
If you installed freesbie on your hard drive, then you could run kde and/or gnome with it.
