Freedom OKs $200,000 loan to pave roads
FREEDOM — Residents on Tuesday night approved a loan of $200,000 to pave town roads, and resurface gravel roads.
The town was to use the extra income for roads.
Dirt roads will be resurfaced, and hills will be prepared for tarring, Richardson said.

 Roads, Cars, and Responsibility
Legislators in Richmond and Annapolis should consider selling existing roads in the metropolitan area to private owners, and leave future road projects to be negotiated between roadbuilders and area landowners.
At present, the use of roads is effectively “socialized,” with everyone paying virtually the same amount for the roads despite how often or when he drives.
Road users shouldn’t be forced to subsidize rail travel, and passenger-rail advocates shouldn’t have to pay for roads to be built.

Roads to freedom: direct action against new roads is giving birth to a new culture of resistance in the West
The biggest thing to come out of Twyford Down was, however, not the road that destroyed an historic and protected piece of Hampshire but rather the British anti-roads movement, a many-headed hydra of protest which has shaken the establishment and changed public perceptions.
Claremont Road's most effective protester was a 93-year-old woman, Dolly Watson, who refused to leave the house she had lived in all her life.

The Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride planned to stop in Greensboro, and this time the issue is the treatment of immigrant workers before and after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The aim of the freedom ride is to draw attention to issues that affect both documented and undocumented immigrant workers, including the legalization of undocumented workers, reunification of families, equal treatment on the job regardless of immigrant status, and the restoration of civil liberties lost under the Patriot Act.
After arriving in Greensboro on Tuesday, Freedom Riders, their supporters and local activists were to gather in front of the Civil Rights Museum and march to the North Carolina AandT State University campus, where a candlelight vigil was planned at the February One monument.

Why Software Should Be Free - GNU Project - Free Software Foundation (FSF)
Comparing free roads and toll roads by their usefulness, we find that (all else being equal) roads without toll booths are cheaper to construct, cheaper to run, safer, and more efficient to use.
The toll road is not as good as the free road; giving us more or technically superior roads may not be an improvement if this means substituting toll roads for free roads.
The word ``free'' in ``free software'' refers to freedom, not to price; the price paid for a copy of a free program may be zero, or small, or (rarely) quite large.

Difficult call, in the end national interest has to take precedent unless that which is in self-interest is so dishonorable that it must be avoided at all costs.
The unfortunate position this puts us in is that as the global beacon of freedom and democracy (which we are regardless of our warts and pimples), we end up looking like adults that tell their children, "do as I say not as I do."
Sometimes I think security conflicts with freedom and democracy, and that can be a difficult dilemma since they go hand in hand.

The major challenges to Ukraine economic dynamism and full-fledged political freedom are the consequence of two factors: a corrupt, patrimonial economic system and the excessive concentration of unchecked power in executive branch.
There is today in Ukraine political space --often an uncomfortable space, but a space nevertheless--for opposition parties, civic groups, for freedom of association and freedom of speech and protest.
Moreover, despite the fact that many media are under the tight control of oligarchs or the executive branch, enough free media exist to enable most Ukrainian citizens have access to objective information and to make it impossible for the controlled media to avoid discussion of the major controversies around the unfolding political crisis.

PROPOSED ROADS TO FREEDOM BY BERTRAND RUSSELL, F.R.S. THE attempt to conceive imaginatively a better ordering of human society than the destructive and cruel chaos in which mankind has hitherto existed is by no means modern: it is at least as old as Plato, whose ``Republic'' set the model for the Utopias of subsequent philosophers.
In their view, the democratic form of government is not very enormously preferable to other forms so long as minorities are compelled by force or its potentiality to submit to the will of majorities.
It is undeniable that the rule of a majority may be almost as hostile to freedom as the rule of a minority: the divine right of majorities is a dogma as little possessed of absolute truth as any other.

This sounds trivial, but it is not, surely if you take the increasing control over net-use in universities and corporations, and this especially outside the Netherlands, into account.
