 | | Precipitation: 1) The process where water vapor condenses in the atmosphere to form water droplets that fall to the Earth as rain, sleet, snow, hail, etc. 2) As used in hydrology, precipitation is the discharge of water, in a liquid or solid state, out of the atmosphere, generally onto a land or water surface. |
 | | Rain (RA): Precipitation, either in the form of drops larger than 0.02 inch (0.5 mm), or smaller drops, which in contrast to drizzle, are widely separated. |
 | | Rain seemingly falls in sheets; individual drops are not identifiable; heavy spray to the height of several inches is observed over hard surfaces. |
