		Freguesia do Ó is one of the oldest districts in São Paulo.
		That chapel, destroyed in a fire in 1896, was rebuilt by the local population and the new church was re- inaugurated in 1901 as the Mother Church of Nossa Senhora do Ó.
		On the north side of the city, Freguesia do Ó is now one of the most important and populous districts in São Paulo, preserving marked traces of the colonial tradition, from the use by the eldest dwellers of colloquialisms of the time to the architecture of the buildings.

		Until recently, the name Agualva-Cacém belonged to a freguesia with 10.51 km² surface area.
		In 2001, that freguesia still existed, and the census made that year revealed a population of 81,845.
