Lady Dilke points out that the French painters of the 16th century " laid on their local tint in a solid layer, running " it up to the extreme edge in mass," and on this, when dry, they hatched with the brush point.

Matters returned to a stalemate, the French had also launched a (initially supposed diversion) attack on an isolated farmhouse on the right of the allied line called Hougomont which failed time and again, drawing more and more troops into the attack all the time.
At least 1 French account tend to play their losses down ignoring the 15,000 captured soldiers during the rout and claiming 24,000 dead and wounded as their total, matching it to the combined allied losses of just 22,000.
Ok, so it was hit, but the point shows that the French really never had the intention of using the column to attack, their principle was to manoeuvre so that superiority could be found then form line to attack.

Spain: Catalan election threatens further instability
Businessmen in the French Catalan region already eye the lower production costs in Spanish Catalonia enviously, while Spanish Catalan nationalists see links with the French territory as enabling them to negotiate more effectively with the EU.
In the absence of a socialist perspective to unite Catalan workers with their class brothers and sisters in the rest of Spain, France and throughout Europe, such a rejection of politics can leave the working people of the region at the mercy of a predatory and increasingly assertive regional bourgeoisie.
Catalan lessons are free to immigrants, while they have to pay for Spanish lessons.

Home Language Practices of Trilingual Children in French Immersion
Demographic changes in urban schools have recently led some educators and researchers involved in French immersion education to turn their attention to the presence of children of immigrant families in immersion classrooms.2 Some of these children learn French and English at school in addition to learning - and maintaining - a family language at home.
They were recruited through the French Lower Mainland Consortium,3 who identified teachers interested in the research; the teachers, in turn, contacted families of trilingual students in their classes who were disposed to participate in our research.
Although the focus of French immersion research is expanding, we still have only a partial understanding of the language development of immersion students.

Using the same databases of speech and music, we asked if there was a difference between English and French intonation which was reflected in the music of the two nations.
To see if this difference between the two languages was reflected in music, we turned to our database of turn-of-the-century composers, and examined the same set of musical themes which we had previously analyzed for rhythm.

Unfortunately, as with F1 2000, F1 Championship Season 2000 uses the "old" course configuration; for the 2000 incarnation of the Italian Grand Prix, the initial tight left-right-left-right chicanes used in previous races were removed and replaced instead with a gentler right- left-right chicane similar to Hokkenheim's Jim Clark Chicane, but slightly tighter in overall configuration.
Fortunately, except the Pit Straight, the course features wide run-off areas, especially along Hulman Blvd. For the drivers, part of the "mystique" of the U.S. Grand Prix at Indianapolis was the closeness of the spectators; at no other F1 circuit are the fans literally "just across the wall" from the cars.

French Consulate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Consulate was the government of France from 1799 to 1804—from the fall of the Directory in the coup of 18 Brumaire until the start of the Napoleonic Empire.
On 18 May 1804 the French Senate voted to give Bonaparte the title of emperor, a move that was ratified by yet another public referendum on the same day.
After thwarting yet another conspiracy against his rule, led by Cadoudal and Pichegru, and provoked by Bonaparte's refusal to give place to Louis XVIII, and executing the hated duc d'Enghien, Napoleon enjoyed a great outpouring of adulation, which he in turn took advantage of to put the crowning touch to his ambitious dream.

Ballet possesses many such steps, including those that require the dancers, while in midair, to turn, beat their legs or feet together, or change their leg position.
Ballet technique consists of stylized movements and positions that have been elaborated and codified over the centuries into a well-defined, though flexible, system called academic ballet, or danse d’école.
Ballet is often described in terms of moving upward and outward; ideally, the dancer’s limbs should appear to extend into infinity.

French literature - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In fact, French literature around the turn of the century was eclectic, with all kinds of tendencies represented, but with no single one dominant for any great length of time.
Their poetry, they claim, has cadences which the outsider cannot sufficiently detect; it has all the delicacy for which its sister, French prose, is so justly renowned; and, if the poetry seems to the foreigner to be rhetorical, that is in accordance with French tradition and is acceptable to French taste.
French classicism taught the dependence of modern literature upon the ancients.

However, I think that the continuities between their thought and that of the revolutionaries are more important than the discontinuities, in large part because of that historical "re-"flex, which persisted even through the Terror and which anticipated the historical turn taken by republican nationalism in the nineteenth century.
I remarked in Chapter V that even the most radical of the French Revolutionaries, even while explicitly breaking with the French past, nonetheless almost reflexively had recourse to the language of "re-"covery, "re-"birth, and "re-"generation.
French nationalists of all stripes have most definitely considered these things as foundation stones of the French nation.
