The Flower class was a class of 267 corvettes developed by the Royal Navy specifically for the protection of shipping convoys during the Second Battle of the Atlantic in World War II.
By the end of the Second Battle of the Atlantic, the RCN was the primary navy in the northwest sector of the Atlantic Ocean and was responsible for the safe escort of innumerable convoys and the destruction of many U-boats—an anti-submarine capability that the RCN would build upon during the post-war.
While some units from the French army were still fighting, a number of top politicians and military leaders decided that it would be better to surrender given the situation; France signed an armistice with Germany on June 22 1940, leading to the establishment of the Vichy France puppet government in the unoccupied part of France.

But the German offensive was not successful because the French had a sufficient number of reserves at hand to stop the assault and did not need to bring in additional reinforcements.

The Hampton class Corvette (designated by the USSF as a “Destroyer Escort”) is one of six classes of light warships operated by the USSF, the others being the old Hancock class, the modern Cayuga class, the French built Aconit class, the American Concord and the British Killiecrankie.
