The French Department offers a wide range of courses in French and francophone language and literature, contemporary France, cinema, etc. It sponsors concerts, plays, films, and lectures, open to the campus and the wider community.
The Maison Française houses 11 students and a French assistant, and with the Cercle Français, it organizes a variety of activities, including parties, the weekly café français, a cinéclub, and trips to Montréal.
It is possible to begin French at Middlebury and study abroad in the junior year.

The visit by interactive video occurred in French 597, the interdisciplinary seminar on "Forces of Change in Contemporary French Politics" offered here Spring 2005.
Catherine Bertho Lavenir will be visiting the seminar in person on April 26 (316 Burrowes) from 1 to 2:15 to talk about médiation culturelle as a field, and in particular about the kinds of research conducted by faculty and students in her department.
