 French Peerage
Contrary to England, actors were never used to play the parts of the peers (at the coronation of George III in 1760, the actors playing the French peers behaved in an unseemly fashion; the claim to the title of king of France was dropped in 1801).
But, starting in 1576, princes of the blood rank by their order in the lineage, whether or not they are peers, and independently of any peerage they might hold.
The order of precedence was altered by Henri IV for his legitimized son César, duc de Vendôme, who was placed after princes of the blood and before peers, but this rank was changed under Louis XIII.

A NEW WORLD ORDER: THE SPANISH CAMPAIGN FOR PRECEDENCE IN EARLY MODERN EUROPE.
The presence of the king’s representative was equivalent to that of the king himself;  therefore, the order in which ambassadors entered a room, or the proximity of an ambassador’s seat to the altar in church, became a direct measure of his monarch’s status.
French ambassadors objected, however; Vargas was no longer the Emperor’s ambassador, they insisted, but merely that of the King of Spain.
The last point is the most interesting: the idea that precedence was not a constant, but should instead be determined according to the current “greatness” of monarchs.

It’s hard to imagine that the order of the colourful national flags of NATO’s members moving harmoniously in the Belgian breeze could be the cause of lengthy, sometimes emotional debate.
In 1953, the SHAPE legal advisor observed “Grande Bretagne” was not the correct French expression for the United Kingdom.
Therefore he suggested the adoption of the order used by NATO Headquarters at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, where the English names were used, the host nation was not granted a special position, and there was no system of rotation.

Operators on the same line have equal precedence, in which case their associativity decides which order to evaluate them in.
Table 15-1 omits the precedence of instanceof - testing suggests it to be of the same precedence as not, negate, casting, and @.
The table also omits the precedence (and associativity) of the "execution operator" - but since that's a sort of quoting, I don't think it meaningfully has a precedence or associativity - they explain what is to happen where there's an open-endedness in the sense of missing brackets, and the quoting is a sort of bracket.
