Topic: Frenzy (album)

Frenzy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Frenzy (1972) is a crime thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and is the second last feature film of his extensive career.
The narrative made use of the familiar Hitchcock theme of an innocent man overwhelmed by circumstantial evidence and wrongly assumed to be guilty.
The film opens with a sweeping shot along the River Thames to the Tower Bridge, and while the interior scenes were filmed at Pinewood Studios, much of the location filming was done in and around Covent Garden and was an homage to the London of Hitchcock's childhood.

The album is regarded as the start of the band's breakthrough, and marked a shift from art rock to more pop-oriented songs.

Frenzy are a 3 piece band, formed in the August of 1983, during the successful revival of the Rock-a-Billy music scene around that time.
Frenzy came to be in a music shop in Bristol, when Steve and an old friend, Simon Brand, were playing around with guitars and double basses one Saturday afternoon.
Frenzy's popularity had not gone un-noticed by some of the larger independent record labels, and soon Frenzy had been signed by ID Records in London.

Jesusfreakhideout.com: Five Iron Frenzy, "Our Newest Album Ever!" Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
Regardless of the fact that this album was not as wild and crazy as their previous 1996 effort Upbeats and Beatdowns, it still remains a worthwhile CD for any hardcore ska fan to add to their music collection.
However, the next 2 tracks are pretty self-explanatory as "Where is Micah" is the band's ode to their lead guitar player Micah Ortega who always ends up being late for band shows and usually the last person to arrive back on the tour bus when leaving a concert venue.
Regardless of the fact that Five Iron Frenzy will no longer be a band after November of this current year, their music will still remain in the hearts of ska fans all across the country.

FRIDAY NIGHT FRENZY -- The Best in Christian Rock!
Their first single off the album "Move This City" is a catchy encouraging tune, but again doesn't offer too much in the originality department, which tends to be the problem with most of this CD.
And lastly, their first single from this album, "Pure", has good intentions and is kind of a fun song in a way, but they really are trying to hard to do something different here and it just turns out to be one of the weakest songs on the album.
Copeland is capable of more and this isn't the perfect sophomore album that you would like to see, but they were courageous enough to play around with their music some and not stick with the same formula, and that doesn't always work.

I had been curious about Five Iron Frenzy ever since I read an article about the lead singer's college roommate who carried a golf club (a 5 iron, to be specific) for protection with him wherever he went.
The album is even educational, giving dictionary definitions of some of the song title words such as "Spartan" and "Juggernaut".
Listening to the album for the first time was one of the greatest consecutive 39 minutes and 27 seconds of my life.

Now, nearly three years, and two albums later, this high-octane octet of ska-core crazies are still skankin' the night away.
Five Iron Frenzy's first album: "Upbeats and Beatdowns" was released in November of 1996 under a record label founded by Frank Tate [5 Minute Walk Recordings], called SaraBellum Records.
Mean while, if you've never been to one of their concerts, I suggest a crash course in skanking, and a cheap pair of sunglasses, because during the excitement of the crowd, they'll probably get broken.

If you do not already know the band, and are not familiar with their style, this album will not mean much to you; in fact you probably won't like it if you are not already a Five Iron fan.
This isn't as much an "album" as a collection of stuff that the group had laying around - old recordings of stuff, recordings of the members of the group just goofing around, stuff that wasn't good enough to be released on an official album.

HM - Five Iron Frenzy Review
Their Live album (released literally months later) showcased their often raucous and energetic live shows with crowd singalongs that often overpowered the band itself as well as over the top stage banter in between songs.
With its swipes at salsa and other musical genres as well as darker lyrical themes, Hype was their most mature record up to that point, but a lot of their fans just weren’t hearing it…or buying it for that matter.
The first time I heard the song as off of the live album, and the passion was so intense that I started crying at the bridge and the chourus.

Darediablo: Feeding Frenzy: Pitchfork Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
Feeding Frenzy's thrusts are unrelenting: Jake Garcia's thick, angular riffing may evoke lots of fond (if repressed) Deep Purple memories, and all three have chops-y tendencies that could be considered sorta prog.
But Feeding Frenzy is more of a beer-in-plastic-cups party than a studied meditation, and the music is jumpy enough to get anyone dancing-- even if all your moves are preemptively restricted to fist-pumping and head-bobbing.
Darediablo can be a little trickier than they seem on paper, though: the instrumentation here is clever enough to satiate those who regularly storm through Guitar magazine, and their approach is varied enough (from heavy to relaxed to curiously harmonious) to keep casual listeners poised and curious.

The whole band sounds tighter as a group now and this album is like a reflection on their time as a band and a goodbye gift to their fans.
It's not the strongest song on the album, but it does work to establish the sound and feeling of the album and works great as an opening track.
I can't give this anything less than a 10, not only because of the album itself, but because of how perfectly it represents the career of a band of people that haven't been afraid to be who they are despite criticism thrown at them from both the punk and Christian communities.

Live albums don't ordinarily make the grade, but when a band whose last two studio albums have utilized the studio itself as an extra player, plays with this level of ferocity, it really stirs things up.

One of their chief song writers left the group before songs for this album were written, and the various members of the band (all 8 of them) kind of traded off on song writing duties for this album.
As a result, it lacks the unity in sound that a lot of their other albums had (Electric Boogaloo has the same failing, but not to the same extent).

The album’s cover was painted by Raewyn Turner, the band’s lighting operator and Eddie’s partner at the time.
Due to the original version of the album sounding “like it was produced in a milk shake machine”, “Frenzy” was completely remixed by Eddie in 1981 for its debut release in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. Side 1 contained songs from the Mallory Earl sessions, plus the Tickle-produced I See Red.
