Topic: Frequency (game)

  Frequency
This is what I call a “Twitch” game, hit the corresponding button at the right time, and with games like that button configuration is a necessity.
Visually, Frequency is eye candy on acid, a true light show experience that complements the music to a tee.
Given that the whole of Frequency is jam packed with top artists from several genres of music, you know right off the bat that the beat is jammin’.

Game Scheduling - Generate Slots Tab
Game Duration: This is the duration of the game plus any other time needed prior to the next game starting.
For example, if you schedule games of 45 minutes of clock time and 15 additional minutes between games, etc..then the Game Duration is 1 hour or entered as 60 minutes.
The day the games will be played on is determined by the day of the week that the schedule starts (start date on the details tab).

 Amplitude - GameCritics.com
Fans of Frequency will likely be able to blow through most of the game without too much difficulty, except in the very last stages.
Frequency's abstract notion of popping scrolling sound nodules by pressing the corresponding controller button has been replaced in Amplitude by a physical object: a spaceship that shoots three calibrations of lasers at the nodules to break them.
While Frequency's songs showcased mostly DJs and artists than made music off the beaten path, so to speak, Amplitude is chock full of recognized chart-toppers such as Papa Roach, Blink 182, Weezer, Pink, Slipknot and David Bowie (who contributes a surprisingly bland offering).

It is a complicated formula but the ticket payout percent and hit frequency of each redemption game in a location must be set in relation to all the other redemption games.
Also remember that you are striving to have an ‘average ticket payout %’ (value of all tickets dispensed divided by total redemption game gross, for a time period) for all the games of approximately 25%-33% depending on your local competition.
A children’s redemption game, such as a ball toss game, has a fairly high entertainment value due to the physical activity of tossing balls and a long time of play, if enough balls are set per play.

 Frequency -- PS2 -- Five Stars
To the untrained, it might seem that the game is too easy, but the more you play, the more you will get a sense of the underlying strategies that you’ll have to master in order to really maximize your scores for each level.
This is a game where it is all about the game play; it could have the graphical prowess of Pong and I’d still be hooked.
I tell everyone that I talk to about this game because it is one of those rare titles that has the potential to appeal to everyone from the die hard gamer to someone who’s never picked up a joystick in their life.

The Armchair Empire - Playstation 2 Reviews: Amplitude
Unfortunately, the PaRappa games never got much critical acclaim after the first in the series was released in 1997, so they took music gaming in another direction with the release of Frequency, which came out in late 2001.
While this is less confusing initially for new players, Frequency veterans may have problems moving from the far right side of the playfield all the way back to the far left without breaking a scoring streak—and that’s definitely a pet peeve.
Freestyling in Frequency was a better option, as it gave players something to do if all of the music tracks in a given section were completed, in order to increase their score.

Rhythm games have never really enjoyed the same level of popularity in the US as they have in Japan, where they are nothing less than a staple of gaming.
The core octagonal game field stays the same from level to level, but the background action is dictated by a selection of preset background themes that you can choose from at the beginning of each round.

In the original Frequency, a player would feel as if he or she were flying through a tube of sound.
In general, setting up games against one or two other opponents is not difficult, however it is sometimes hard to fill a complete game with four total players.
Frequency was a fun game in its own right, and anyone looking for a good quality rhythm game should look no further than its sequel, Amplitude.

Like many good puzzle games, Frequency has a good addictive base to it, but with its world infused with music the way it is, its going to need a way to grow.
A game like this should be able to go farther than that of course, but that depends on what new features the upcoming PS2 hard drive brings with.
If this were an Xbox game for instance, players would be able to rip songs from their own private music CD collection into game-based MP3s that could then be used as part of the game’s music content.

Between the unpopularity of most music games in the U.S. and the genre's wane in Japan, an original game coming out of an untested American development house seemed like a folly.
The game was fairly well received, though, as it brought together easy-to-understand gameplay with a decent selection of music and some panache.
While the first game showed a tendency toward electronic music -- not terribly surprising, given the general vibe -- Sony's managed to score much more eclectic selections this time.
