In painting, the term fresco (pl. frescoes) comes from the Italian phrase buon fresco, ("really fresh") a technical term in opposition to in secco ("on dry surface").
True, or buon fresco, technique consists of painting in pigment in a water medium on wet or fresh lime mortar or plaster.
Egyptian wall paintings in tombs are usually in secco, while the Roman wall paintings at Pompeii and Herculaneum are in fresco.

 CNN - When software rescues a fresco - January 6, 2000
The team began by creating a copy of part of the fresco, measuring 40 centimeters by 40 centimeters, and breaking it into fragments similar in size to those of the original -- Cimabue's work is currently broken into around 120,000 fragments with an average diameter of 2 centimeters.
The computer cannot compete with the visual recognition capabilities of humans, but it performs a repetitive task tirelessly, accurately and fast.
Parts of his fresco were irremediably destroyed by the violent impact with the floor and the colors had deteriorated with age.

That is computing focused on data, instead of the uses the data might have, and on computing procedures, instead of warrior processes.
Computers, not people were in the driver seat, and the people who used computers had to translate data to the programs structure on input and translate back from the program structure to their needs when they received the output.
The simple computing problems have been solved during the decades already past, and the countries that can’t handle the complex problems are going to fall by the wayside during the decades ahead.

Apple eNews - Finding Statistical Order with SPSS
For Dr. Fresco, a clinical psychologist and postdoctoral fellow at the Adult Anxiety Clinic of Temple University (AACT), the return of SPSS to the Mac is a welcome event for at least two reasons:
Statistical analysis plays a significant role in almost all of Dr. Fresco’s research, and he uses SPSS to engage in the various forms of statistical interpretation and analysis he needs to conduct.
One of Dr. Fresco’s primary responsibilities at the AACT is to conduct data analysis for the various studies.

 FRESCO pre-event – January 21, 2004 - Novartis.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
To keep pace, Novartis has pushed aggressively into the esoteric world of “grid computing”, a technology that exploits idle capacity in thousands of personal computers within the company to assemble raw computing power comparable to the biggest supercomputers in use today.
But Novartis and other pharmaceutical companies require similar computing muscle to successfully computerize research processes such as Docking, an “in silico” version of high-throughput screening – sifting through millions of compounds in chemical data bases to pinpoint the best docking between a candidate compound and a receptor, enzyme or other biological target.
Peitsch says grid computing is still in its infancy, at roughly the same stage of technical development as the World Wide Web was a decade ago.

Vigay.com : Ant Support - Fresco Type 5 Problems and their possible cure
One of the most annoying problems with Fresco is it's ability to give a "Type 5" error when you least expect it, causing Fresco to quit immediately and close any browser windows you may have had open.
Fresco can cause problems with some types of large hard drive, especially when used with third-party hardware addons such as SCSI adapters.
This tends to point to Fresco leaving something in memory which is not cleared by quitting and reloading, but only on a machine reset.

If you have an older version of RISC OS, it cannot blend font colours to the background, and will result in Fresco being unable to display any text (or rather it is, but it's displaying it in the same colour as the background and hance you can't see it!).
This particular option can't be changed from the standard Fresco choices window - mainly because it's a fairly specialised feature of Fresco and generally only needs to be set once and can then be left alone.

Toward Quality Tools and Tool Flows through High-performance Computing
New-generation EDA tools must work correctly on a wider range of inputs, have more internal states, take more effort to develop, and offer fertile ground for programming mistakes.
Ensuring quality of a commercial tool in realistic design flows requires rigorous simulation, non-trivial computational resources, accurate reporting of results and insightful analysis.
To be practically feasible, such tasks must be automated; they leverage high-performance computing to improve EDA tools.

MITRE's efforts were in support of U.S. Army STRICOM; DISA's Center for Standards had targeted this area for standardization; and OIS had a market interest in building an Ada-based version of Fresco as the basis for their User Interface Builder software.
This mapping has been used by MITRE as the basis for an integration of an Ada component with an ORB and OIS is using this mapping to implement the Fresco specification as well as to develop a translator from OMG-IDL to Ada9x.
