Friday night death slot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term Friday night death slot refers to the idea that television shows broadcast on Friday nights in the United States, face a greater than average chance of being cancelled.
Friday slot, the show nevertheless attracted an audience segment advertisers would have found highly desirable, as it consisted mainly of married couples with lots of disposable income.
This show was moved to Friday nights in the United States by UPN (now the CW) beginning on September 9, 2005, because of low ratings in its original Thursday-night slot.

Talk:Friday Night Death Slot - The TV IV
From The TV IV Codswallop, The Invisible Man went two seasons (mostly) at Fridays at 8:00, and Farscape was Fridays at 8 or 9 for as long as it was on.
Both The Invisible Man and Farscape were Scifi channel shows, and Scifi's Friday lineup is generally considered to be extremely successful.
The thing is, ratings that Scifi Channel considers to be astronomical would be considered pretty bad by any major network because Scifi doesn't have anywhere near as large of a viewer base as CBS or ABC or even FOX just by virtue of being a cable channel.

 Friday, 2200
So far, I haven't touched on anything that could remotely be considered an advantage of having any show run on Friday nights, but there are some not so obvious advantages out there (if you look hard enough and some of these things can be eerie).
Most of the rest of the successful Friday night shows have been things that I more or less can't stand (like the TGIF line up; you have your Urkels and your Sabrinas and your Corey Matthews).
Maybe these shows illustrate my next point; a show doesn't have to be as good to be successful on Friday night because, on average, that is when television is a veritable wasteland.

On May 30, Walt Disney Video released "Night Stalker: The Complete Series," a boxed set of all 10 produced episodes of the ABC series "Night Stalker," which premiered in Sept. 2005.
It was a re-imagined version of an unpublished novel by Jeff Rice and two 1970s TV movies, "The Night Stalker" and "The Night Strangler," which starred Darren McGavin as monster-hunting newspaper reporter Carl Kolchak.
On the subject of battles, Spotnitz relates one example from his "Night Stalker" experience: "Believe it or not, after the show was ordered, I was told they didn't want any monsters in the show, which was kind of jaw-dropping to me, because if anybody knows the 'Night Stalker' title, more than anything it's about monsters.

Garner is one of those performers whose stature lends instant gravitas to a project by virtue of his participation.
