Friday the 13th (movie) From Sterwiki Friday the 13th is a 1980 slasher film directed by Sean S. Cunningham and written by Victor Miller.
The film's ending though would be the subject of much controversy though, as the horror movie magazine Fangoria published photographs of the film's ending, which had Jason triumphantly killing all of his victims in a twist ending.
Because of this, a new ending was quickly filmed that homaged the ending of the first film with the surviving girl dreaming that Jason's mother jumped out of the lake so as to drag her out of her canoe and drown her.

Friday the 13th is a 1980 slasher film directed by Sean S. Cunningham and written by Victor Miller, admittedly made to cash in on the success of Halloween, the film's theme was to take "mom and apple pie and turn it on its head."
Although the film was poorly received by most, if not all, mainstream film critics, it became one of the most popular slasher films in history.
The film was shot at Camp NoBeBoSco in Blairstown, New Jersey.

All three films, although moderately profitable, were major disappointments at the box office, and their failures together represent the official farewell of the slasher craze of the 1980's.
Paramount presents the film in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, and Friday fans, this is the transfer you have been waiting for.
This is a dark film, but thankfully the shadow depth and fl levels are very respectable, bypassing the problem of nighttime graininess that has plagued the rest of the transfers in the series.

Friday the 13th: A New Beginning is by far the goofiest Friday the 13th film yet.
(Friday the 13th: Part 3 was a mixture of the two.) Steinmann does not make the film into a Mel Brooks movie, but he's clever in the way he subtly reconciles the more professional look, a personal style and a sense of humor with all the conventions of the series.
This film is every bit as good as the other three films in the series, and like the other three films in the series it's good in precisely its own way.

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives is a slasher film, the fifth sequel to the original Friday the 13th.
The film is also the only installment aside from the original film to be set on (or at least stated to be set on) a Friday the 13th.
The film has also been criticised for turning Jason from the villain he was portrayed as in the previous films into an anti-hero.

The rabid success of "Friday the 13th" was because it hit at the right time, was promoted well, had a "trick" ending (of sorts), and had the gore-work of Tom Savini going for it.
