Winnecke discovered 9 NGC objects from different places during his long astronomical career.
NGC 3222 (Auwers 27), a galaxy in Virgo, was found in March 1855 with a comet seeker.
Winnecke is mentioned as co-discoverer of the planetary nebula NGC 1360 in Fornax (seen with a 3.5" comet seeker at Karlsruhe in January 1868), but Swift has seen it first in 1857 with his 4.5" comet seeker.

 7P/Pons-Winnecke
Friedrich August Theodor Winnecke (Bonn, Germany) accidentally rediscovered this comet on 1858 March 9.06.
Shortly thereafter, Winnecke applied the orbit of the 1819 comet to the available positions and found an almost perfect agreement by assuming a perihelion date of 1858 May 2.47, and slightly increasing the inclination.
The comet was subsequently recovered on 1869 April 10 by Winnecke.

F.A.T. Winnecke, in 1863, had reported a position angle of 88 degrees, which seems to have decreased to 80 degrees until 1966, and further to 77 deg in 1991.
At the time of Winnecke's discovery, the angular separation of these stars has been determined as 49.2"; it has gradually increased to about 51.7" in 1966, when the Kreimer photograph was taken, and further to about 52.8" in 1991, as measued by the Hipparcos satellite.
According to his analysis, the brighter component was measured at a distance of 510 light years (corresponding to a parallax of 6.4 milli arc seconds, and a "distance module, m-M", of roughly 6.0 - this is the difference between apparent and absolute magnitude).

He discovered or co-discovered a large number of comets, including the periodic comet 7P/Pons-Winnecke and the comet once known as "Pons-Coggia-Winnecke-Forbes" but later renamed to 27P/Crommelin after (additional info and facts about Andrew Crommelin) Andrew Crommelin, who computed its orbit.
He also compiled a list of (A system of two stars that revolve around each other under their mutual gravitation) double stars and found a number of (An immense cloud of gas (mainly hydrogen) and dust in interstellar space) nebulae.

Winnecke, in 1863, had reported a position angle of 88 degrees, which seems to have decreased to 83 degrees since.
Assuming the primary is a main sequence star, it should be roughly of Solar luminosity, so that one can give an estimate of the order of magnitude of its distance: It should be of the order of 100 parsecs, or 300 light years.
According to his analysis, the brighter component was measured at a distance of 510 light years (corresponding to a parallax of 6.4 milli arc seconds, and a "distance module, m-M", of roughly 6.0 - this is the difference between apparent and absolute magnitude).

German bacteriologist who discovered the organism that causes diphtheria, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, (1884) which had first been observed by the German physiologist Theodor Klebs in the throats of diphtheria patients (the organism became known as the Klebs-Löffler bacillus).
The isolation and cultivation of pure cultures involved a number of formidable technical problems; Löffler found it necessary to develop a new medium, thickened serum, as the conventional gelatin used by Koch required temperatures far too low for the diphtheria pathogen.
With his brother Eduard Friedrich Weber (1806-71) he discovered the inhibitory power of the vagus nerve (1845).

The comet is in Gemini in August and Virgo in November.
In August 1979, Michael Candy reported the discovery of a comet on a plate taken by J Johnston and M Buhagiar while searching for minor planets; this had the motion expected for 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3, but with perihelion 34 days later than in a prediction by Brian Marsden.
They were lined up along their common heliocentric orbit (with A being the leading and brightest component) and connected by a trail of material, suggesting that the comet's nuclear fragmentation was accompanied by a copious release of large dust particles.
