Friedrich Leopold, Graf Stolberg - LoveToKnow 1911
FRIEDRICH LEOPOLD STOLBERG, Graf zU (1750-1819), German poet, the younger son of Count Christian Stolberg, was born at Bramstedt in Holstein on the 7th of November 1750.
Born at Hamburg on the 15th of October 1748, he became a magistrate at Tremsbuttel in Holstein in 1777, and died on the 18th of January 1821.
Of the two brothers Friedrich was undoubtedly the more talented, but Christian, though not a poet of high originality, excelled in the utterance of gentle sentiment.

 Hamlet in Germany
In 1774, Friedrich von Blanckenburg, in a treatise on the novel, had called for the emotional range of Shakespeare’s plays to be made available for the purposes of fiction (1965, 100-68).
Friedrich Schlegel’s comments on Hamlet, in Über das Studium der griechischen Poesie (On the Study of Greek Poetry) (1795-7) are part of a philosophical and aesthetic critique of modern poetry in general.
Friedrich Theodor Vischer, on the other hand, seizes on the mixed quality of Hamlet’s character, the morbid and the healthy, the justified and the unjustified, in thought and deed.

 German Dramatized Novels
Assuming that the penchant for dialogization and dramatization was as strong in 1790 as was indicated earlier, there is every reason to suspect that publishers and retailers exploited the dramatized novel for their own short-term gain.
Friedrich Traugott Hase (1754-1823) has been credited as author of the first two German dramatized novels Gustav Aldermann (1779) and Friedrich Mahler (1780), both published by Friedrich Weygand in Leipzig.

German Dramatized Novels   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
Sympathetic to this movement towards a genre that promised to achieve a heightened sense of representational immediacy was the young Friedrich Schiller.
By describing his personal response to Meißner¼s Alcibiades, Schlenkert¼s Friedrich mit der gebissenen Wange, and Feßler¼s Marc-Aurel, the critic lent special credibility to his account of the causes which impede effect of the dramatized novel (UdR 5).
The critic argued that, since human experience is by nature not confined to dialogic situations, the exclusive use of dramatic form in a novel violates natural principles (Üdr13) and deters, if not hinders, the more perfect („vollkommener¾) portrait of character development (Üdr 7).

 Seminar
One is the recovery of the importance of Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock for his contemporary readers and for the following generation.
Going beyond the familiar history of the impact that Klopstock’s Der Messias had, Lee reveals the importance of Klopstock’s odes and elegies for the development of a new German lyric sensibility, attested in the responses of Herder, Gerstenberg, Boie, and Schubart.
The second issue is how Klopstock became a model for Goethe and in particular how Klopstock’s lyrical experiments would reverberate in and through Goethe’s works as he was beginning to find his poetic voice in the early 1770s.

 FOLKERS & POWELL: Boie
Though it is not quite certain which Boie, father or one of two sons, was responsible for this design, it seems most likely that it was Friedrich Boie, who succeeded Johann Friedrich at some time before or after his death in 1809 and continued his business making flutes and clarinets.
The Boie flute is of course a fully-fledged 19th-century instrument, with a range down to B for playing Viennese repertoire that otherwise would require a Koch, Ziegler, or similar instrument.
