Pittsburgh is great just the way it is. If the honest truth ever gets out about how great our city truly is then it will become just another overcrowded US metropolis like San Fran (or is that Frisco?) without the charm and character that is has so much of now.
The problem with Pittsburgh though is that it has the highest elderly population and its filled with people who never travel(ed) too far outside of their "comfort zone." So yes, I can understand where some of the negative comments came from, but you can easily avoid this if you know where to live.
I love Pittsburgh, but it has been described by some as more 'provincial'- and though I think that is part of the city's charm, it might make it harder for someone not from Pittsburgh, but who has lived in very metropolitan cities to acclimate - - - especially in areas like the suburbs.
