Frightful Four - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Frightful Four are a group of fictional characters who serve as the opposite number to the Fantastic Four.
Later on (issue #30-31), the Frightful Four escaped their cell, tricking the frightened guards into thinking that zombie Reed used scraps from his lunch to turn a pen into a teleporter.
It is unknown at this time if the Frightful Four will discover their world empty of zombies, most of them having been destroyed while the few remaining others, infused with Power Cosmic after devouring Galactus, moved on to take over his role as devourer of worlds...

It was shortly before the formation of the Frightful Four that Pete abandoned his old alias and assumed the more intimidating Trapster.

During his tenure with the Frightful Four that included the Wizard, the aquatic villain Hydro-Man, and the mysterious Salamandra, the Wizard tired of Trapster's failures and his general snivelling, and callously sealed the villain in a repeating time-loop.

This story is his take on the Frightful Four, and so far, it's looking pretty intriguing, as he wises up the villains to make them more dangerous and seems to be building their plot not just on a physical threat to the Four but on the villains playing on their continual PR problems.
Where I can complain is in the design of some of the most generic costumes I've ever seen for this new Frightful Four, and while I can certainly see the appeal of changing the admittedly ugly, dated looks of these villains, if you can't improve on them, you should at least leave the classics alone.
Waid has also introduced a new character here, someone who helps out the Frightful Four with their schemes but who I'm guessing will have a more far-reaching role in the story as well.

However we see the Frightful Four aren't without their own problems, as the Absorbing Man isn't exactly a team player, while the Sandman is not exactly eager to be a big, bad villain, and this reluctance force the Wizard to take measures that will ensure Sandman will jump when he tells him to jump.
However, in spite of an explosive collar that would scatter him to the four winds if he steps out of line, the Sandman isn't exactly ready to sit back and let his girlfriend be endangered by his teammates.
There's also a nice shot of the out of control Sandman, and the scene where Ben is tortured by the Frightful Four is a nice understated bit of work, that also manages to display the humanity of some of the Frightful Four members, as well as their sense of fun in one of the panels.

In the early 1960s, the Fantastic Four billed itself as "the world's greatest comics magazine," and issues 41-50, collected here in the FF's fifth volume in the Marvel Masterworks series, actually live up to that lofty claim.
A trademark of the Stan Lee-Jack Kirby years was their epic sweep, and these 10 issues encompass three different story arcs that are themselves connected.
"Marvel Masterworks: Fantastic Four, Volume 5" is the highpoint in the history of the title that has proclaimed itself to be "The World's Greatest Comic Magazine" for the simple reason that once you face down "God," which is basically what the F.F. does when it tackles Galactus, it is all down hill from there.
