Roy McHugh Remembers: Zivic had a nose for the sweet science
Ferdinand Henry Zivcich, better known to the public as Fritzie Zivic, was the fifth and youngest son of a Croatian immigrant who made his home in Lawrenceville, went to work at the Black Diamond steel mill, sent for his Slovenian sweetheart, Mary Kepele, and married her.
The decision went to Armstrong, but his head, Zivic recalled, was swollen to the size of a pumpkin.
Zivic had wit, personality, and a flair for after-dinner speaking.

Cyber Boxing Zone -- Henry Armstrong
Zivic came in three-quarters of a pound under the stipulated weight and as it stood, a victory for the Hill boy would not elevate his status among the ranking welterweights.
Zivic chased down Charley in an attempted to close the gap between them and on the occasions when he was successful, he resorted to the tactics that had brought him victory the last time the two had met.
Zivic was written off by sports writers in the following days newspapers as being washed up and finished as a world class fighter yet Fritzie Zivic had more heart and determination than anyone could have imagined as he would later go on to prove the press and the public wrong.

Rosenfeld is meticulous in his detail and coverage of not just Burley's fights, but also many other fighters of the era, such as Billy Conn, Fritzie Zivic, Holman Williams, Lloyd Marshall, the Cocoa Kid, and many more.
If one had no idea of Burley, or in that case Zivic, Williams and the like, Rosenfeld's breezy and informative writing style brings the sadly forgotten fighters of a bygone era back to life.
The Author makes a good case for Burley as being a fistic great robbed of a title shot in an era of only a handful of champions who mostly fought non-title affairs instead of defending their laurels on a regular basis.
