  Wisconsin Frog and Toad Survey
The Wisconsin Frog and Toad Survey (WFTS) is a citizen-based monitoring program coordinated by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the North American Amphibian Monitoring Program (NAAMP).
The primary purpose of the WFTS is to determine the status, distribution, and long-term population trends of Wisconsin's thirteen frog species.
The WFTS was initiated in 1981 in response to known and suspected declines in several Wisconsin species, particularly northern leopard frogs (Rana pipiens), Blanchard's cricket frogs (Acris crepitans blanchardi), pickerel frogs (Rana palustris), and bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana).

Final Report to Michigan DNR Non-Game Wildlife Fund
This project was a pilot study to test the feasibility of training middle/high school  teachers to engage their students as volunteers to inventory and monitor the presence and rate of amphibian malformations in Michigan.
While two schools took advantage of the offer of grant funds available to offset the cost of conducting class field trips to conduct frog deformity surveys, it is the grant recipient’s opinion that funding was not a deciding factor in the school or teacher’s ability to participate in the project.
The goals for this project were to combine a reasonably rigorous inventory of the incidence of frog and toad malformations with an educational tool for middle and high school teachers and students.

The most comprehensive long-term study (since 1985) of bullfrog populations seems to be the work of Dr. Ron Brooks of the University of Guelph at Lake Sasajewun in Algonquin Provincial Park (See Shirose et al 1993, Brooks and MacDonald 1996, MacDonald and Brooks 1997).
Typically, bullfrogs in the area will not begin calling until late May to early June, however beginning to scan for calling activity at the start of May will ensure that an 'early' season is taken into consideration (global warming increases the possibility of earlier calling activity in the future).
Brooks' work was chosen over Lake Opinicon and Nogies' Creek research because of a more intensive sampling ratio in an environment that would seem to parallel that of the TIE.
