The Frogman's usual costume consisted of knee-breeches made of yellow satin plush, with trimmings of gold braid and jeweled knee-buckles; a white satin vest with silver buttons in which were set solitaire rubies; a swallow-tailed coat of bright yellow; green stockings and red leather shoes turned up at the toes and having diamond buckles.

Subject: Oz John Bell: Since other countries in the area appear to be magical, it seems to me that the ultimate source of magic is not Lurline's spell.
Oz itself was probably magical before Lurliens enchantement, although the enchantment certainly enhanced and magnified that inherent nature, so that Oz is more magical and special than any other land.
Of course, a certain Oz fan who will remain nameless (he's not on the Digest) thinks that this "new Ozma" is the direct result of Baum's illness, and that the "little girl after all" (both physically and mentally) is the *real* Ozma.

Once a young Winkie produce salesman, Carter has eaten so many of his own vegetables that he has lost his human appearance altogether and has come to resemble one of Acrimboldo's autumnal noblemen, to whom he is first cousin.
As in too many of her Oz titles, Thompson opens the book with a boy hero, Prince Evered, in trouble within his own kingdom; when not being threatened with unattractive marriages, Thompson's boy kings and princes have usually been toppled from their thrones and hidden away in dark dungeons by wicked adult conspirators.
Throughout, The Hungry Tiger Of Oz feels rushed, sketchy, and narrow in scope, as if Thompson had thrown less than the full weight of her talent into its writing.

One more important theft was reported in the Land of Oz that eventful morning, but it took place so far from either the Emerald City or the castle of Glinda the Good that none of those persons we have mentioned learned of the robbery until long afterward.
They all advised her to do as the Frogman had told her to, so she posted the sign on her door and waited patiently for someone to return the dishpan—which no one ever did.
While they were thus conversing, the Frogman joined them and looked down at the plain with his big eyes and seemed unusually thoughtful.

The Lost Princess of Oz (Books of Wonder) by L. Frank Baum is the 11th book in the oz series and tells the story of when ozma is missing from oz and the subsequent hunt to find her.
Like the previous Oz book, "Rinkitink in Oz," this was an outing by Baum that scores by deviating a bit from the standard Oz formula.
The characters in the book are on a journey, as usual, but instead of trying to get to the Emerald City, the characters are departing that city to find the missing Princess Ozma who, along with most of the powerful magical objects in Oz, has vanished.
