For their fourth album, From Luxury To Heartache, Culture Club jettisoned producer Steve Levine in favor of pop/R&B veteran Arif Mardin, seeking to reverse the commercial decline they had suffered with their third album.
When the danceable lead-off track, "Move Away," rose into the singles chart, that seemed like a good decision, and the rest of the album followed through with a pronounced drum sound and a relentless beat.
This disc was released shortly after an American compilation called Collection and features similar artwork, but their...

Rolling Stone : Sold : Review
After initiating one of the most successful publicity juggernauts of the decade, Boy George had a hard time adjusting to the consequences of fame.
The bitter Waking Up with the House on Fire, Culture Club's third album, was followed by the disastrous From Luxury to Heartache and by news of George's heroin addiction.
But in the crackling title track that starts his first solo album, George declares, "I'm not a factory about to be shut down." And indeed, as evidence of his recovery, Sold is as convincing as a clean urine sample.

 Culture Club: Nostalgia
Culture Club mounted a major U.S. tour at the end of 1984, complete with backup singers and a horn section.
They also released another album, Waking up With The House On Fire, and scored a Top-20 hit from it with “The War Song.” The band took a break for much of 1985, but returned the next year with From Luxury To Heartache.
They also made a memorable guest appearance on an episode of The A-Team, which depicted them playing in a honky-tonk for a surly group of down-home types.

However, the degree of overlap on the two discs is inexcusable (11 songs appear twice, once on each disc).
Also inexcusable is the omission of most of the band's post-"Colour By Numbers" material (which is especially disappointing given that "From Luxury to Heartache" is not available in the U.S., and "Waking Up with the House on Fire" is very hard to find).
It would be nice to have a comprehensive greatest hits package from Culture Club; unfortunately, "Storytellers/Greatest Moments" isn't it.

Their next album, 1984's Waking Up With the House on Fire was a major disappointment.
Though the band gained a small comeback with 1986's From Luxury to Heartache (thanks to the hit "Move Away"), both George's and Jon's fights created much tension, eventually leading to the breakup of the band.
Around this time, George also became addicted to heroin, which created a frenzy with the tabloids.

 Music Review: Sold
I am somewhat disappointed with "Sold," because, despite its great sound, most of the songs are instantly forgettable.
With excellent Culture Club albums like "From Luxury to Heartache," Boy George has proven that he is capable of writing better material than this.
In one song he states "I'm not another factory/ about to be shut down." Unfortunately, much of "Sold" suggests the opposite.

But by 1984’s Waking Up With the House on Fire, the band was starting to feel the pinch as personal problems began to plague Culture Club.
By 1986, the aptly titled From Luxury to Heartache left the band with little else.
Eventually, Culture Club reformed in 1998, producing a new album, Don’t Mind If I Do and doing knockdown business on the concert circuit.
