From a Buick 8 by Stephen King
Buick 8’s story is told through both flashbacks and present day occurrences much like King’s Delores Claiborne, although it’s more definite when King is asking his readers to switch time frames in From a Buick 8.
As Ned becomes increasingly familiar with the story of the Buick 8, he begins to connect the death of his father with the otherworldly characteristics of the automobile.
Intent on discovering the truth behind the Buick 8 and, as such, the truth behind the death of his father, Ned makes his way to the shed within the barracks that houses the Buick 8 and decides to climb in.

However, unlike most other car makers at the time, the Buick engine was an overhead valve design.
The engine was sold in different displacements depending on the model of car and the year.

 The Great Race 2002 - BuickStreet.com
Buick’s early overhead two cylinder engines and cars quickly evolved into four cylinder and then six cylinder OHV engines, all of which were very good performers for their time.
The big Straight 8 engine was the first of nine engines that went into the Buicks that eventually became classics, collectables, or, at the least, highly desirable automobiles.
Buick’s second great era began in 1953, marked by a major design shift to the big overhead valve (pushrod) V8’s, embodied by the various “nailhead’ designed heads (so-called by virtue of their small diameter, vertically oriented valves).

Review | From a Buick 8 by Stephen King
From a Buick 8 is narrated, campfire-style, by members of the Troop D barracks who haul the car back to the station and lock it away in a shed out back.
While From a Buick 8 isn't packed with as many hair-rustling moments as some of his classic works, there's enough here to make you think twice before popping open the trunk of your own car and reaching around in the dark interior.
Ned's father was one of the first people to discover the allure of the Buick -- an obsession which may or may not have led to his gruesome death.

 From a Buick 8
The novel is about a car, an old Buick, left at a gas station in 1979 by a mysterious man in a fl overcoat who disappeared.
The attendant calls the State Police, and they show up and have the car towed to their barracks and stored in Shed B. But this car is unusual because it is spotless, not a mark or speck of dirt or mud on it.
Sandy Dearborn is the main character, though mainly as an observer as, in the past, Curtis Wilcox and the boss Tony take the lead in studying the Buick, and in the present, as Sandy tells the story to Curt's son Ned.

This Buick 8 pulls up to some gas pumps at a full-serve gas station in Western Pennsylvania in 1979.

The inspiration for FROM A BUICK 8 itself arose from another incident that I won't reveal here --- King does a wonderful job of it in his Afterward --- but accounts for the setting of the tale in Western Pennsylvania.

Toward the end of a hot July afternoon in the year oh-one, Curtis pulled over one of those big sixteen-wheelers, an interstate landcruiser that had left the fourlane because its driver was hoping for a home-cooked meal instead of just another dose of I-87 Burger King or Taco Bell.
