Front groups - KnowledgeIsFun.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
A front organization, also known as a front group (if it is structured to look like a voluntary association); a front company, a shell corporation or simply a front (if it is structured to look like a company), is any entity set up by and controlled by another organization.
A front organization may simply be a proxy that keeps the parent group's name out of the picture or it may look publicly as if it is set up to do one thing, but actually be set up to do something else on behalf of its parent group.
Fronts are sometimes set up by intelligence agencies, corporations, criminal organizations, banned organizations, or other organizations that are engaged in activities with which they would prefer not to be identified.

 Front groups - SourceWatch
A front group is an organization that purports to represent one agenda while in reality it serves some other party or interest whose sponsorship is hidden or rarely mentioned.
The front group is perhaps the most easily recognized use of the third party technique.
Thus, citizen smokers' rights groups and organizations of bartenders or restaurant workers working against smoking bans are sometimes characterized as front groups for the tobacco industry, but it is possible that some of these groups are self-initiated (although the tobacco industry has been known to use restaurant groups as fronts for its own interests).

Shortly after the group's inception, it was clear that the RRF's famously fast rate of recruitment meant that the population would soon surpass saturation point.
With the creation of Group H (Previously the Department Of Homeland Security), the groups were released from the need to rotate defensive duties in Ridleybank, meaning the horde could spread it's arms further than ever before.
The Ridleybank Resistance Front has a formidable reputation as the most dangerous horde in Malton, and much of this reputation was built by the groups, who have, between them, laid waste to over half of Malton City.

 Center for Justice & Democracy
Since 1991, "tort reform" advocates have set up dozens of tax-exempt groups in at least 18 states (currently there are 27 active groups) to plant their "lawsuit abuse" message in the media and the public consciousness, and to influence legislation, the judiciary and jurors.
While CALA groups tell the media, as well as lawmakers, that they are sustained by small donations from ordinary citizens, the money trail from many of these groups leads directly to large corporate donors, including tobacco, insurance, oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical companies, medical associations, and auto manufacturers.
The CALA blueprint was honed in South Texas in the early 1990s where the first group to carry the "lawsuit abuse" message ran doom and gloom television and radio ads warning that the legal system was out of control, affecting the economy and the pocketbooks of average people.

The Wise Use movement is a nationwide network of industry lobbies and grassroots front groups that originated during the 80's as an offshoot of the "Sagebrush Rebellion" in rural America.
They have also set up numerous front groups that disseminate seemingly "scientific" arguments to policy makers while shielding them from the scientific peer-review process that would expose their flaws.
But whatever their focus, these groups ultimately seek the elimination of virtually all environmental protections - even where public health and safety are involved - in the hope of securing unlimited short-term access to natural resources, property development, or access to the harvest of fish and game.

In general, the front groups prospered in the mid-1980s as a result of growing opposition to the Marcos government.

A "front" group is any group or organization which is created by a parent group, which subsequently hides its involvement with the front group.
Given that authoritarian sectarian groups tend to stay with the tactics that work for them, it's quite simple to trace the connections between the WWP and A.N.S.W.E.R. Sometimes this is as easy as looking at which groups are individuals are involved when a group starts.
The beauty of front groups is that they can establish media credibility for a leader who can hide their links with the more politically problematic parent group.

Common Cause named nine lobbying groups that are focusing on possible legislative changes such as whether to allow communities to deploy their own wireless networks that would directly compete with phone and cable companies as well as whether to block network providers from charging content providers to pay for speedy deliver of their services.
