Project water is released from Pueblo Reservoir to the Arkansas River for irrigation and municipal purposes, to the Fountain Valley Conduit for municipal purposes, to the Bessemer Ditch for irrigation, and to the Pueblo Fish Hatchery for the fishery.
The South Fork Diversion Dam diverts water from the South Fork of the Fryingpan River to the South Fork Siphon, where it combines with the flow from the Chapman Tunnel and is conveyed by the South Fork Feeder Conduit to the inlet of the South Fork Tunnel.
The capacity of the river outlet is 1,120 cfs, and the capacity of the outlet to the Mt. Elbert Conduit is 370 cfs.

When you drive up along the river towards Roudi reservoir there is a sudden bend and at that bend stands a huge red rock nicknamde Strawberry Rock.
I fished up the river from that and it was full of Brown trout.
When I was there the green drakes were on the water and the fish loved the paterns we were throwing to them.

The original settlement was actually called Fryingpan Town and was located on the south side of the Fryingpan River, near the old charcoal kilns, Portions of which are still visible.
However, in 1887 the railroad established a new townsite on the north side of the Fryingpan River and the residents of the old town relocated to it, leaving the original townsite that eventually disappeared.
In the early 1880's the lower end of the Fryingpan Valley, which had been within the Ute Reservation, was staked out with mining claims and homesteaders quickly moved into the area near the confluence of the Roaring Fork and Fryingpan Rivers.

Evening rain storms have raised the river’s natural flow temporarily, but in this dry summer the river is now dependent on the release of water which was stored during the spring runoff.
Due to the dry conditions and low natural flows in the river, senior water rights are preempting junior, or more recent, water rights from using water unless they can replace their use with reservoir releases.
The Colorado River District and Denver Water agreed earlier this month to protect Colorado River water users by offering to release water from their West Slope reservoirs in place of normal releases from Green Mountain Reservoir while repair and maintenance work proceed.
