Maybe they were supposed to be "lead drums", which in theory would have not been a bad idea because Fu Manchu had Brandt Bjork, one of the greatest drummers, ever...except he doesn't do anything on this release except play a basic back beat with little else.

A friend of mine got me into Fu Manchu, and I had previously bought "California Crossing," and "The Action is Go." I finally got around to picking up "King of the Road," which just blows the other two away.

The main complaint is that Fu Manchu are meant to produce intense rock suitable for driving, but the fact that the tracks on California Crossing ooze into one piece of relentless guitar rock doesn’t make for the most satisfying of cruising albums.
