Fuchsine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fuchsine, fuchsin, rosanilin, or rosaniline hydrochloride is a magenta dye with chemical formula C
As well as dying textiles, fuchsine is used to stain bacteria and sometimes as a disinfectant.
Acid fuchsine is a mixture of homologues of basic fuchsin, modified by addition of sulfonic groups.

An aqueous solu tion of fuchsine is decolorized on the addition of sulphurous acid, the easily soluble fuchsine sulphurous acid being formed.
This solution is frequently used as a test reagent for the detection of aldehydes, giving, in most cases, a red coloration on the addition of a small quantity of the aldehyde.
The constitution of the fuchsine bases (pararosaniline and rosaniline) was determined by E. and 0.

Fuchsine Penetration vs. Silver Staining: Microleakage in Class II Composite Restorations
Objectives: To compare two microleakage detection methods (fuchsine penetration; silver staining) in class II composite restorations at two interfaces (enamel/dentin) and to evaluate the influence of the timepoint when microleakage testing is conducted.
Fuchsine (F) penetration involved 16h storage at 37°C. For silver staining (S) samples were stored in 50% silver-nitrate aqueous solution for 2h in the dark, followed by 6h exposure to a photodeveloping solution/fluorescent light.
Conclusions: Fuchsine penetration and silver staining render the same results, indicating that silver-staining is an adequate alternative to fuchsine penetration, showing technical advantages (staining stability, limited tubule penetration).

Re: Spermatozoa stains (New and other fuchsines)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
New fuchsine is one of the dyes that compose basic fuchsine.
For the aldehyde-fuchsine stain you must use pararosaniline or a basic fuchsine that is mostly pararosaniline (Mowry & Emmel 1977 J Histochem Cytochem 25:239).
A dye certified as basic fuchsine could contain only pararosaniline or new fuchsine, or it could be a mixture of 2, 3 or all 4 dyes (often with a high percentage of rosaniline).

TurkoTek Discussion Forums - Quick question re : fuchsin
First, not all fugitive violet dyes are fuchsine, although it is more or less common for ruggies to refer to them all by that name.
Fuchsine didn't exactly hit the market in 1858, the first report of it being synthesized in a laboratory appeared in that year.
Fuchsine is related to mauve or violet red.

The slides for cold staining were placed on a slide-rack and were covered by staining solution (basic fuchsine 1 G, 95% alcohol 10 ml, phenol 3 G, distilled water 100 ml) which was left for 25 minutes before being poured off.
Although the acid-fast bacilli stain less intensely and look sharp and thinner by this method, their delectability is good enough for clinical purposes.
Better results are obtained by increasing the time rather than the concentration of the basic fuchsine [2].

 Dyes as Markers
The statements about the "fuchsin" era are speculative for various reasons, not the least of which is the fact that there are at least six chemically distinct synthetic dyes that qualify under the blue-red or red-violet rubric of "fuchsin," all of which would have been used in yarn dyeing over the period of interest.
This particular "fuchsin" was still in use as a wool yarn dye well into the 20th century.
It seems to me that this sort of effort would principally be useful for answering very specific hypothesis-testing partly in the negative, i.e., establishing that "fuchsin" was present in rugs with inscribed dates that are post-1900 but not establishing actual time of making of an undated rug that had "fuchsin" present.

When mixed with water, chioral hydrate causes a considerable degree of cold; and, as with camphor, small fragments of it placed on the surface of water exhibit gyratory movements.
Chloral hydrate does not restore the color to a solution of fuchsine which has been decolorized by sulphurous acid, and so one must assume that the water present is combined in the molecular condition (V: Meyer, Ber., i88o, 13, p.
Chloral may be estimated by distilling the hydrate with milk of lime and measuring the volume of chloroform produced (C. Wood, P/farm.
