  Fuel Pump - Partstrain.com
The fuel tank is an important part of the fuel system because it stores the fuel until the fuel is used for the vehicle’s operation.
But nowadays, most vehicles include the electric fuel pump which is located inside the fuel tank and is run by the car’s battery.
Generally, the fuel pump is on whenever the vehicle’s ignition switch is on.

Fuel pump - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fuel has to be pumped from the fuel tank to the engine and delivered under low pressure to the carburetor or under high pressure to the fuel injection system.
The fuel pump is generally on whenever the car's ignition switch is in the "on" position.
The fuel sending unit assembly is the combination of the electric fuel pump, filter, and the electronic device used to measure the amount of fuel in the tank via a float attached to a sensor with sends data to the dash mounted fuel gauge.

 Putting on a Fuel Pump
The fuel pump is required in the 1948 Cessna 170's because of the routing and placement of the fuel lines.
The fuel lines come out of the middle of the tanks on each side and are routed down the front of the door support, then under the floor to the fuel tank selector and the on to the gasolator.
There are times and flight configurations including the amount of fuel, pitch and climb of the airplane, that the head pressure, (the weight of the fuel column from the tank to the engine) would be less than the required pressure created by a 41-inch column of fuel.

 Flometrics - Rocket Pump
This pump has the potential to reduce the cost and increase the reliability of rocket fuel pumps by a factor of 10.
For each half of the pump system, a chamber is first filled from the main tank under low pressure and at a high flow rate, then the chamber is pressurized, and then the fluid is delivered to the engine at a moderate flow rate under high pressure.
This pump has the advantage over pressure fed designs in that the weight of the complete rocket is much less, and the rocket is much safer because the large tanks of rocket fuel do not need to be at high pressure.

The Old One - Energy Dynamics : Articles
It's essential that the fuel pick-up be placed correctly relative to the bottom of the tank, or it won't have the ability to "reach" all the fuel in the tank.
Pumping fuel through the stock fuel pump would simply create a tremendous pressure drop on the inlet side of the Bosch pump and diminish it's ability to perform the way it was designed.
The two ends of the bracket that supported the bottom of the stock fuel pump may be bent together to touch and support the new steel tube on each side.

Recall #605 Diesel Fuel Injection Pump
Fuel injection pump replacement is only necessary for pumps manufactured between March and September, 1991 (date codes 163 through 169), that have not already been repaired for this condition.
The pump may rotate slightly when tightening the pump drive nut because of the gear lash between the pump drive gear and cam gear.
Loosen all six fuel tube connections at the injectors and operate the hand lever of the lift pump until fuel is observed corning out one of the high pressure fuel lines at the injectors or until lift pump lever has been pumped a minimum of 30 seconds, whichever occurs first.

Stealth 316 - Fuel Pump Upgrade Guide
The fuel pump must be able to supply the amount of fuel required by all the injectors in wide open throttle (WOT) conditions at the maximum boost level anticipated.
The fuel pump you need then must be able to supply at least 200 lph at 68 psi fuel line pressure (43 psi base line pressure for 3S turbo models plus 25 psi to compensate for boost pressure in the plenum) at the voltage the pump is receiving.
The cause of this is the relatively small gauge wire used in the fuel pump circuit, the inclusion of the engine control relay in the circuit, and the use of an additional relay and resistor in the turbo models to reduce voltage to the pump at idle and low-load cruising.

One is to install a larger fuel pump which involves figuring out what size pump was needed and then dropping the tank to install it, or using a new gadget that increases the output of the stock pump.
I still wanted to find a replacement fuel pump that would flow enough fuel but without knowing what the stock pump was rated at it was hard to guess what to move up to.
I took some fuel line and split it long ways and slipped it over the edges of the bracket to cushion the pump and held it in place with a large hose clamp.

Since the entire supply side of the fuel system is normally pressurized, a loss of residual pressure could be caused by a leaking injector, pressure regulator or fuel pump check valve.
The fuel pumps internal check valve may be allowing residual pressure to leak into the fuel tank.
If the fuel line pressure rapidly drops to zero, the residual fuel pressure is leaking past the fuel pump check valve, or through a fuel line fitting.

The reason for upgrading the pump was simple, the car was starting to lean out by 6,500rpm, and the injectors were at 100% duty cycle even before 6,500rpm.
However after installing this pump, changing the fuel pressure to convert the injectors from 450cc/min to 500cc/min, and making the necessary changes to the fuel map, the car was running super rich, as in 10.0/1 air/fuel.
The pump is held onto the bracket with a hose clamp.

The line between the accumulator and the main pump, or between the main pump and the fuel tank could be clogged, thanks partially to alcohol in the fuel (not your fault).
BTW, the old pump was an AC (as in AC/Delco), the new pump is also an AC part, and, unlike the old one, has an AC part number stamped on it (which I wrote down, but left at home, so I'll have to follow up with a post of the part number).

I think what happens is the G forces in 1st and 2nd push the fuel away from the pickup, starving the engine because the main pump doesn't draw a good suction.

The in-tank pumps that come from the factory on most Hondas are designed for all-motor use, whereas the pumps on the 911 and Supra are obviously built and sized for their turbocharged state.
The armatures and commutators inside the pump are larger, lending to this improved reliability.
Fuel pumps hibernating in the tanks of many 911s are made by Bosch, while the Supra’s pump is made by Denso (formerly known as Nippon Denso).

This pump uses a pulsating motion; this results in a very noticeable throbbing throughout the system - hoses, radiator and waterblock are rhythmically jumping around.
Now, I don't know if all fuel pumps are of the pulsating type, but I can't see how there is any advantage to using a 12 volt vibrator in a computer system.

 Fuel pump rewire
Rewiring the fuel pump with a larger gauge wire can help the stock pump (or any aftermarket pump) maintain higher fuel pressure/volume throughout its' entire operating range, as the stock wire is pretty small.
Splicing the relay into the wiring near the circled section should do fine, as you are only trying to remove the voltage drop caused by the tiny stock wire from the front of the car to the rear of the car.
The circled junction is the one for the fl wire with a white stripe, the 12V supply wire to the pump.

 CNN.com - FAA orders Boeing jet inspections - August 31, 2002
The FAA said the pumps are made by a Boeing supplier called Hydro-Aire, based in Burbank, California, and were installed in at least 116 jetliners during assembly, beginning in January of this year.
If the Hydro-Aire pump is found to be installed, airlines are being told to make certain they keep enough fuel in the center fuel tank to keep the pump submerged in fuel -- even when banking, climbing or experiencing turbulence.
Mechanics, according to an FAA official, said the wires in the fuel pump were worn down to the point of shorting.
