		FUERTH: There's an interesting tension between an announcement every four years that a new administration has a brand new reconceptualization of America's role in the world on foreign policy and the certain knowledge that, in another four years, that administration and its grand conceptualization may completely pass from the scene.
		Fuerth made the very interesting statement that history would judge the premises underlying the Clinton foreign policy, and it was plural premises and the word "history" indeed was a part of it, and you indicated that Mr.
		Fuerth's recent comment on the administration's involvement in Latin America and the Caribbean and just to ask the panel whether it could describe for us how a President Gore might approach the issue of hemispheric relations, what might be the priorities in developing that relationship and would it be characterized by continuity or new initiative.

	The Elliott School of International Affairs \| Briefing
		According to Fuerth, the Elliott School’s “reputation for being a place where people interested in government receive not only theoretical, but hands-on, experience” was integral to his acceptance of the Shapiro Professorship.
		In addition, Fuerth is teaching a capstone course, which he calls “an experiment.” The course is an effort to simulate the White House process, to assess the impact of long-range issues on the international system and analyze responses in security policy.
		Fuerth is interested to “see what it reveals”; students have the opportunity to look into the future and distill it, while he gets to learn how the process works.

		Leon Fuerth is the former national security adviser to Vice President Al Gore.
		Fuerth served on the Principals' Committee of the National Security Council, alongside the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, and the President's own national security adviser.
		Fuerth's term as J.B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Professor of International Affairs at the Elliott School ended in December 2002.
