Fuji Volcano   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Fuji illustrated by a famous Ukiyoe painter, Hokusai Katsushika (1760-1849): one of thirty-six views of Mt. Fuji.
Fuji Volcano is the highest in Japan, rising 3776 m above sea level in the form of a typical cone about 50 km across the base.
The reason is nothing but the fact that the volcano is virtually covered almost everywhere with lava-flows and pyroclastics ejected by the volcanic eruptions that have occurred since the end of the last period of the Quaternary Ice Age.

 FujiFilm FinePix S3 pro
The Fuji S3's claim to fame is its enhanced dynamic range through the use of its proprietary Super CCD SR II sensor, with two separate photo-sites – one to record the normal exposure range, and the other just the highlights.
So what we see is that because of the characteristics of Fuji's S3 hexagonal sensors, combined with the secondary R pixels, the S3, which is nominally a 6MP camera when it comes to resolution, generates a Raw file that is larger than that from a 16MP camera.
The Fuji Hyper software got the white balance right, but then when the gray point selector was used on the upper part of the shed, (as it was for all three images and conversions) the file came in with pink highlights.

Digital Cameras - Fuji FinePix E550 Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications
Because of Fuji's unique "SuperCCD" pixel layout, the natural translation of the sensor's diagonally-arranged honeycomb-shaped pixels into normal square ones in the final JPEG image files means that the 6.3 million sensor pixels turn into 12.3 million pixels in the finished files.
The Fuji E550 features a 4x Fujinon lens, equivalent to a 32.5-130mm lens on a 35mm camera, a range from a reasonable wide-angle--one that is better than most--to a useful telephoto.
Fuji provides a second cover with the camera, apparently on the safe assumption that the small, flexible cover is bound to be lost.

Fuji's present shape was created over hree generations of volcanic activities by the Ashitakayama/Ko-Mitake (Small Mitake), Ko-Fuji (Old Fuji) and Shin-Fuji (New Fuji) volcanoes.

Activities by the Shin-Fuji volcano, which created the mountain's current shape, are said to have begun about 10 thousand years ago and erupted repeatedly for over 100 times during a period of about 10 thousand years between then and the Hoei Eruption in 1707.
