 The Legacy of Livedoor/Fuji
What appears to have finally persuaded Livedoor to seek a truce with NBS was NBS' five-year loan of its 13.8 percent stake in Fuji to a unit of Softbank, a Livedoor competitor (through its ownership of Yahoo Japan).
In this way, Livedoor was blocked from taking control of Fuji via the 22.5 percent stake NBS held in Fuji ?- which was likely the real object of the takeover battle in the first place.
Interestingly, TV Asahi's leading shareholder, Obunsha Media, was the target in 1996 of a similar takeover attempt by Fuji's current white knight, Softbank, which financed its bid with funds from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

Japan's top TV network has acquired over a third of Nippon Broadcasting System, the $2bn radio broadcaster which is itself Fuji's biggest shareholder.
This is bad news for Livedoor, the young pretender seeking to snatch NBS from the clutches of a clubby Japanese deal, unlock hidden value and strike a blow for corporate governance in Japan.
But if the saga is far from over (courts have yet to adjudicate on some of the tactics used), Livedoor's own approach already looks pretty flaky.
