Yes, there are some Okinawan forms called White Crane (Hakutsuru, 白鶴) based either on Matsumura's style or on Wu Xianhui's teachnigs but as far as I know, none of these is commonly practised in TSD circles.
White Crane is actually very similar to Matsumura's style and also to old Naha systems which I can confirm because White Crane is besides Taiji the only Chinese system I gave a try to out of curiosity.
Or White Crane Chinna: one of the basic techniques is very similar to the elbow "blocks" in the 2nd half of Pyung Ahn 3.

Well i can't answer how i see crane used in karate because i have'nt seen it used in karate.I don't think it's the deadliest of the animals either in my own thoughts.I would say snake,tiger,and monkey are some of the most deadly.I like the crane though although tiger and monkey are my two favorite animals.
White Crane is very deadly, as is snake, and dragon forms beacuse of thier fluid unpredictable movements.
I know of the concepts are crane concepts even though movements are more like a mixed of karate and crane in one movement I seen certain hand postions and such.

Also here is a 5 Meg.mov file of one of the Haku Tsuru (white crane in japanese) forms that he practices.
He then split from it and started to teach the Tiger Crane syllabus deceptively under the name Fu Jian White Crane which he was still doing in 2001 which was the last time I visted any of his schools.
I am not sure of where his crane is from but I know it's emphasis is a little different from our own, and yet without a shadow of a doubt Crane.

After reading the bubishi, it seems as though much of the katare kata are related to the same area of china that white crane was developed.
Though Goju uses a lot of crane blocking and stepping routine and few Crane movements as found in Saifa (1 leg stance(knee,block,check sweep whatever) kick and Seipa (seen in WC spining twist back fist) among others but there doesn't seem to be any direct connection to purely White Crane.
Fukien or Fujian White Crane does look like Uchei or Goju somewhat you can see an begining but there are no simliar Kata except an open hand version of Sanchin and its not done the same.
