Most of the men recruited into the military from the Kyoto area went into the 16th Division of the Imperial Army, which was established as a standing army division with its headquarters in the Fukakusa area in the southern part of the city of Kyoto after the Russo-Japanese War in 1904 -1905.

Kyoto Tower is also right outside the station, so I took the opportunity to go up to the observation deck.
I caught the train directly from Kobe to Kyoto, and wandering out of the station, I found that both Higashi Honganji and Nishi Honganji were close by.
