Nagasaki became a free port in 1859 and modernization began in earnest in 1868.
The Nagasaki bomb, dropped by the Boeing B-29 Bockscar was much more explosive bomb (22 kilotons of TNT as opposed to 13) than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima three days earlier and was a plutonium bomb, whereas the Hiroshima bomb was a uranium bomb.
Nagasaki is the title and subject of a 1928 song with music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Mort Dixon.

The long and short of it is that despite good advice from Nigel on this board, we decided predominantly to go lure fishing, and when we arrived we realized that the fish that bite lures such as seabass, yellowtail, maks etc. were not in.
The way things work in the Gotos is that everyone arrives in Fukue from Nagasaki either by ferry or airplane.
You can stay in Fukue and hire a boat taxi to take you to various small islands to fish from Fukue.

I went to visit her on her far-off island paradise, Fukue (in the Goto Islands).
Although the journey was longer, I enjoyed it more, as I stayed outside for most of it to get in some of the sea breeze and views of some of the other Goto Islands.
After a quick stop in Nagasaki for a fried-shrimp burger and acerola berry shake for a mid-afternoon meal, I took the train and made it home at about 9pm.

Over the weekend there was a huge earthquake in Niigata Prefecture that killed at least 20 (human beings, that is) and left a lot of people injured, missing, or homeless.
Didn't feel a thing here in Nagasaki but I'm hoping that my friends and family in northern Honshu are OK.
Crazy souls from Fukuoka and Miyazaki joined us Nagasaki "athletes" for some egg-tossing, peace-disc-throwing, and futbol madness at our campsite, and it made for some great times, great music, and great conversation thanks to my "Book of Questions".
