May 14, 2003 - The Fukuoka Dome - Buffaloes vs. Hawks
Perhaps it was the auspicious arrival of a group of eight people in my section in the bottom of the fifth, at which time the Buffaloes led 8-0, or maybe it was just bad relief pitching by the Buffaloes, that turned the tide.
The Hawks had closed the deficit to 8-4 by the ninth, thanks in part to a 2-run homer by catcher Kenji Jojima (or Johjima if you read his uniform, but that's a very long story I have since learned) and a pinch-hit RBI double from Bryant Nelson.
Off to a good start again in 2004, the Hawks future is still in doubt as their corporate owners, the Daiei Corporation, is still deeply in debt over the construction of the Fukuoka Dome and its surrounding entertainment complex as well as an overexpansion of its supermarket empire.
