A samurai of Owari, Fukushima served Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the Shizugatake Campaign (1583) and gained recognition as one of that battle's 'Seven Spears' alongside Kato Kyomasa, Kato Yoshiaki, ect.., being rewarded for his bravery with land worth 5,000 koku.
During the course of the campaign, Fukushima, like the majority of samurai serving on the peninsula, was to be tied down fighting guerillas, in his case those of Chungchong Province.
Fukushima's troops joined Tokugawa's main army, and stood in the vanguard in the the Battle of Sekigahara.

Born in 1561, Fukushima Masanori served under Hideyoshi from an early age.
He fought at the vanguard of the eastern army against the massive forces of Ukita Hideie, and for this was rewarded a fief in Bingo and Aki, amounting to 498000 koku.
After Sekigahara, Masanori started to lose his influence as the Toyotomi retainers started to die off, and though he was not prosecuted severely by Ieyasu for pledging his alliance with Toyotomi Hideyori, he was put under house arrest at Edo castle.

Son of Fukushima Sadanobu, a warrior from the state of Owari.
After the death of Hideyoshi, Masanori went with Ieyasu to fight at Aizu, but during the onslaught heard the news of Ishida Mitsunari's army, and swore there and then to align himself for good with the Tokugawa.
Masanori took the tonsure and retired to a life of solitude in Shinshu, dying there shortly afterwards at the age of 64.

 History Of Daito-Ryu
The younger brother of the famous daimyo Shingen Takeda (1521-1573), Kunitsugu, arrived in Aizu in 1574 and became governor of the Aizu Clan centered in present-day Fukushima Prefecture.
An important figure in the evolution of Daito-ryu was a certain Masanori Hoshina.
Masanori made a triumphant entry into Aizu Castle in 1643 as a lord of the Clan.
