  Full Frontal - Movie Review
The seats of pleasure in Full Frontal are few and far between because the film mirrors life; and yet it never drags due to the astoundingly presumptuous nature of the film itself.
At times, Full Frontal does fall into the pit; there are moments when the dialogue doesn't snap as much as Soderbergh might have hoped for, or when the film lurches precipitously between cuts.
Full Frontal is a movie that speaks to individuals released during a time when the prestige movies are being mass-marketed to as many demographics as humanly possible, and given the climate into which it was released, that's reason enough to praise it.

Except for the dull title, the movie is near perfect: entertaining, instructive, emotional, expertly directed and funny.
The movie, directed by Steven Soderbergh, long a favorite of actors and film buffs, is just as pleasing, and should be his first blockbuster hit.
Erin is a tremendously empathetic person -- that's the reason the country folk of the movie trust her when they don't trust lawyers.

"Full Frontal" is fascinating to watch from a purely theatrical standpoint, but as a Hollywood razzing, it's strictly leftovers.

But Soderbergh extends his idea a little too far; in addition to the "real life" sequences, there's also a movie-within-the-movie ("Full Frontal" opens with bogus credits for that film, including the title) which he tries to distinguish by using normal Hollywood photography for the movie-with sequences, and hand-held video photography for the rest.
It's a bit startling when Roberts takes off her fl wig (and the movie snaps over to "real life"), but at least it gives us an easy way to tell when Roberts is playing the fictional Catherine and when she's playing Francesca, her "real" identity.
Soderbergh's attempt to separate scenes from the movie-in-the-movie from just the movie by the clarity and "professionalism" of the movie-in-the-movie cinematography vs. the hand-held, video look of the rest, undoubtedly worked better in theaters than it does on video, where all the images are on video.

"Full Frontal" is an unrestrained, at times improvised, 24-hour expose on a group of interconnected people living in Hollywood who will converge in the evening for the 40th-birthday bash for movie producer Gus (David Duchovny).
While not all of his aspirations pay off (the statement he wants to make about film versus reality is not a new one, nor is it developed enough to fully gratify), "Full Frontal" penetratingly draws us in to this passing snapshot of just a few of the many unsatisfying lives in Tinseltown.

Movie queen Francesca (Julia Roberts) and TV star Calvin (Blair Underwood) double as actors appearing in Rendezvous, a movie about the movie industry that pretends to be a movie within the larger DV reality.
Although it gives stress to the fact that rich and famous and powerful people also do need to be cared for and they are just as troubled as everybody else, the film focuses merely on the sex-related concerns of these people as if its all that matters behind the screen.
The movie is disgusting in its entirety notwithstanding some disturbing vulgar use of language.

The former sequences are executed without the obvious tongue-in-cheek humor movies within movies generally carry, grabbing the viewer’s interest in the film’s characters even if it’s known they’re not real.
Where Full Frontal’s going is never quite clear, with Soderbergh’s almost random scene order presenting twists and revelations that add chance, childhood trauma, and hashish-laced brownies to the film’s list of addressed issues.
Either way, Full Frontal doesn’t add up to the eye-opener that David Lynch’s similarly disjointed Mulholland Drive was or bring the viewer to a better understanding with the film industry, with its only “message” being that reality isn’t too real itself.
