Per Fighting Karate si intendono tutti quegli stili di Karate che praticano il combattimento "Full Contact" (a pieno contatto).
La differenza di questo tipo di Karate con quello piu' conosciuto in Italia e' la possibilita' durante le competizioni sportive di mettere Knock out l'avversario con tecniche di calci che possono colpire dalle gambe fino alla testa e con tecniche di pugno ammesse solo al di sotto del viso.
Da allora anche il Fighting Karate si e' evoluto modernizzandosi sui metodi di allenamento, ma lasciando inalterato lo spirito : dedizione e preparazione atletica sono elementi comuni che dovrebbero avere tutti i praticanti di Full Contact Karate.

Full contact karate includes Kyokushin-kaikan which was founded by Masutatsu Oyama and other offshoots of Kyokushin, so-called because emphasis in matches is placed on the amount of damage done rather than the quality of technique displayed (although this is also important).
It would be accurate to say that the biggest boost to the popularization of karate in America came with the American military occupation of Japan and Okinawa after World War II; once American soldiers had assimilated the discipline, they returned to the States and began to disseminate it.

Full contact rules kickboxing or full contact rules karate is a relative term in contrast to light- or semi-contact sparring in martial arts tournaments from which American kickboxing evolved.
The WKA was once known as the World Karate Association and later switched the K to kickboxing.
But, by the other replies, I think I understand why the "full contact", since the Karate was light and semi contact..full contact would be the next logical choice.

I contacted one of the kyokushin dojos in the LA area and found that there was not a Kyokushin but an Oyama Karate dojo in San Jose.
