Fullback - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In American football, a fullback is the name of a position in the offensive backfield.
The remaining prominent fullbacks in the NFL are typically employed for breaking through tight defensive alignments, often in short-yardage situations.
As a result, fullbacks are typically less known for speed and agility than for muscularity and the ability to avoid being tackled by knocking down defenders.

The fullbacks are responsible for defending against the offensive effort that the opposing team might make in the shaded area.
The object of defending against an attacker that is not dribbling the ball is to stay between the attacker and the goal, and be ready to defend against a pass, or against a rush if the pass is completed.
When, or if, a pass is completed, the fullback must exert all his efforts to slow down the attacker and keep him to the outside and away from the center of the field.
