Miyagi Prefecture was formerly part of the province of Mutsu.
Miyagi Prefecture is located in the central part of Tōhoku, facing the Pacific Ocean, and contains Tōhoku's largest city, Sendai.
Although Miyagi has a good deal of fishing and agriculture, producing a great deal of rice and livestock, it is dominated by the manufacturing industries around Sendai, particularly electronics, appliances, and food processing.

Sendai, Miyagi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The city's area is 788.09 km², and stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Ou Mountains, which are the east and west borders of Miyagi Prefecture.
The 2005 Miyagi earthquake, which occurred on August 16, 2005 had an epicenter close to the Miyagi Oki earthquake area.
This is because Sendai is near to several major fishing ports, such as Kesennuma, Ishinomaki, and Shiogama, and the fact that Miyagi Prefecture is a major producer of rice.

 Sendai, Miyagi Summary
The city's area is 788.09 km², and stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Ou Mountains, which are the east and west borders of Miyagi Prefecture.
The 2005 Miyagi earthquake, which occurred on August 16, 2005 had an epicenter close to the Miyagi Oki earthquake area.
This is because the magnitude of the earthquake was small, and the source area, which was estimated from the aftershock distribution and seismic waves, did not cover the whole expected source region.

To provide a new, more spacious area during renovation of the cramped stadium, a portion of the surrounding parkland was incorporated into the field layout.
This "cast" strengthens and enhances the functions of the stadium, while also serving as a facade in the rejuvenation of the park.
The design for this stadium and facilities helps to narrow the psychological gap between players and spectators, allowing the team and fans to fashion a ballpark that is also an entertainment space.

Nothing half-baked about the Fullcast Stadium experience | The Japan Times Online
You'll feel thrilled to be with the pumped-up fans in the friendly ballpark with the bright green artificial turf which is colored brown to outline where the infield dirt would be if it were a traditional-style major league field.
An interesting feature about Fullcast is the contour of the infield stands which jut out toward the outfield just beyond first and third base, a la Fenway Park or Yankee Stadium, making for a minimum of space in foul territory down the right and left field lines.
For the record, this is not a paid ad or publicity for the Tohoku Rakuten Eagles, Fullcast Stadium Miyagi or the City of Sendai; just thought you'd like to know where to have a nice time watching baseball in a picturesque setting as I did five weeks ago.

Sasaki's farewell unique in many ways | The Japan Times Online
He takes the field in the late innings, facing a rival veteran player on the opposing team for an emotional encounter, and there is often a post-game ceremony where the player speaks to the crowd over the stadium's public address system as the fans wave a tearful goodbye.
In fact, the sequence of events that was to occur at Fullcast Stadium Miyagi that night was technically a secret, but the plan unfolded as details were "leaked" to the press and public in the days, hours and minutes leading up to Sasaki's final trip to the mound.
The Fullcast crowd of 18,957 went crazy when Sasaki's name was called over the P.A. and gave a standing ovation for the guy making his first appearance in Sendai since Sept. 1, 1998, the year he helped the BayStars win the Japan Series, and he won the Central League MVP award.
