Fundamental Baptist Fellowship of America - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Fundamental Fellowship was organized in 1920 as the National Federation of Fundamentalists of the Northern Baptists, during the fundamentalist/modernist controversy in the Northern Baptist Convention (NBC).
In 1946 the Fundamentalist Fellowship changed its name to Conservative Baptist Fellowship, and was instrumental in organizing the Conservative Baptist Association of America in 1947 and the Conservative Baptist Home Mission Society in 1948.
The chief purposes of the Fellowship are to strengthen and promote historic fundamentalism, to defend the faith while exposing and opposing religious compromise, to promote religious liberty and to lead in evangelism and church growth.

In 1932 the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches was established under the leadership of Robert Ketcham as a reaction against liberalism in the Northern Baptist Convention.
When the Fellowship met, there was vigorous debate, Norris' actions were challenged, an impasse was reached, Vick resigned, met with 120 pastors and sympathizers in the Texas Hotel to consider a new organization, and the Baptist Bible Fellowship International was born.
As the Fellowship mission force grew, she relinquished that position to Miss Kathleen Ball and the Mission Office was born on the campus of BBC.

 Baptist History Articles
The Philadelphia Baptist Association was the first Baptist Association in America and it adopted the Calvinistic 1689 Baptist Confession from London with two additions, the laying on of hands and the singing of Psalms, and became the Philadelphia Baptist Confession of Faith in 1742.
When new associations were formed in the north or south, those associations would adopt either the Philadelphia Confession or the London 1689 Confession and would follow the lead of the Philadelphia Association as to the sending circular letters, annual doctrinal messages at their Association meetings, receiving written questions and the use of catechisms.
Those association churches were as jealous of their autonomy and independence as any of us today, yet they saw the need of doctrinally like minded churches uniting to attack culture with the gospel and to draw out of it, God's elect.

WHAT IS AN INDEPENDENT FUNDAMENTAL BAPTIST CHURCH?
Some "Baptist" churches were in the past founded on the doctrinal teachings of the New Testament, however, many of them have drifted away from many of the teachings of the Scriptures.
The name Fundamental Independent Baptist is of recent origin and came into being as a result of many modern day Baptist churches compromising the Word of God and teaching and practicing false doctrines.
Fundamental Baptist use the name in its strictest sense as meaning holding to the fundamentals of the New Testament teachings without error.

Baptist History - A Brief Survey Independent Fundamental Baptist Churches - What they are and What is their History   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
The name Independent Fundamental Baptist Church is used traditionally by churches which pattern themselves strictly after the example of the early church as found in the New Testament.
These true Baptists added the adjectives Fundamental and Independent to their name in order that they not be identified with the false practices and teaching of the doctrinally unsound churches using the Baptist name.
To call these people Baptists or Baptistic, in the sense that the believed the Bible and followed it as their sole authority for faith and practice, in the same way true Baptist churches do today, is acceptable, although it serves no purpose.

The History of Miami Baptist Association, by A, H. Dunlevy, Chapter 4.
In the year 1805, the Scioto Association was first organized, and messengers from the incipient form of that body, called "A General Conference of a few Baptist Churches on the Scioto," were received at this year’s session of the Miami Association, and a correspondence opened.
How many churches composed that association at their organization does not appear; but as after this year Old Chillicothe, Straight Creek and Bethlehem do not appear on the minutes of the Miami Association, it is probable that they united with that body.
At this association (1821) a resolution was offered "that this association recommend to the churches composing this body to form societies to co-operate with the Baptist General Convention of the United States," and was negatived.

Georgia Baptist Convention - Georgia Baptist Convention -
From our beginnings, Baptists have actively favored the Lordship of Christ, the authority of the Bible over tradition, believer's baptism, the priesthood of all believers, the gathered and congregational church, local church autonomy that encourages associationalism/connectionalism, the separation of church and state, and religious liberty.
Local Baptist congregations were thought to be the only true churches, together comprising the Kingdom of God on earth and able to trace their lineage back to the New Testament through a succession of non-Roman Catholic bodies.
Baptists should not accept the so-called baptism of other groups (not even their immersion), not share the Lord's Supper with them, not recognize their ordinations, and not permit their ministers in Baptist pulpits.

From that time on, those who believed in the fundamentals of the faith were glad to be called "fundamentalists," and various organizations using the word "fundamentalist" in their name were organized and fellowships were established to combat the growing menace of modernism (liberal theology) within the churches.
The long range result was that the Fundamental Evangelistic Association was organized in 1928 which remains today a straightforward, unyielding testimony of Biblical fundamentalism, whereas BIOLA began to walk the path of compromise which soon removed it completely from the fundamentalist, separatist position and transformed it into the compromising, new-evangelical institution it is today.
Throughout the 67-year ministry of the Fundamental Evangelistic Association, we have sought to be faithful watchmen for the Lord according to Ezekiel 33:1-33; 2Timothy 3:1-5; 4:1-5.

Ohio Southern Baptists and Cedarville University
Dixon, who began holding evangelistic meetings in Southern Baptist churches years before he became Cedarville's president, often says, "God is not honored by a narrow view of the Kingdom." He lived out that perspective as he sought to create and solidify relationships with conservative elements of many groups, including the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).
Southern Baptists who held to historical, orthodox Christian doctrine, most notably biblical inerrancy, have struggled to regain and maintain control of the denomination over liberals and modernists, who reject biblical authority.
At the annual meeting of the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio, in November 2002, a resolution was approved to recommend Cedarville University to Ohio convention churches and to "all Southern Baptists as an accredited, quality, four-year university that embraces Southern Baptists."
