Hiroshima is a traditional center of the Chugoku region and was the seat of the Mori clan until the Battle of Sekigahara.
Hiroshima's main industries include automobiles (Mazda is headquartered in Hiroshima Prefecture) and shipbuilding (Kure was one of the main naval bases of the Imperial Japanese Navy and remains a major commercial yard).
Hiroshima Prefecture is opposite Shikoku on the south side of Honshu between Yamaguchi Prefecture and Okayama Prefecture.

The area around Hiroshima, formerly divided into Bingo and Aki provinces, has been a center of trade and culture since the beginning of Japan's recorded history.
Hiroshima prefecture lies in the middle of Chugoku, facing Shikoku across the Seto Inland Sea.

Sensing my disappointment (it, um, wasn't OBVIOUS or anything), she told me that I could drive to Funo if I wanted because it was not very far, but to really be careful.
Earlier she went on a schpiel about what would happen if I got into an accident and how bad it would be if I was not covered.

One was from Funo and they said they'd call back.
I decided to REALLY spoil myself and take the freeway, except that I'm stupid and thought that the exit to downtown Hiroshima would, I don't know, be BIGGER than any other exit because, really, why else would you be on the freeway except to go to Hiroshima.
I had to go to the next exit (Hiroshima-higashi, not to be confused with Higashi Hiroshima) and turn around and have a big truck honk at me in the process.
