FurryMUCK, a virtual world I started with the help of some friends of mine some seven years ago, is now the largest and one of the longest-lived multi-user dimensions (MUDs) on the Internet today.
Comprised of a database of over 180,000 objects, and having over 8,000 characters registered, FurryMUCK typically will have anywhere from 200 to 350 people connected to it, all running about in a virtual world created by means of those database objects, talking, roleplaying, creating and otherwise having a lot of fun.
FurryMUCK is available at muck.furry.org 8888--connection is done via telnet, with the '8888' being the specific network port to connect to.

I would remind you at this point that the FurryMUCK harassment policy explictly states that the person who feels they are being harassed MUST tell the person to stop, AND warn the person that they will contact a wizard.
Well, for starters, while I still think FurryMuck itself is fairly cool, and there are a number of nifty people there, I'm forced to conclude based on these events that the majority of the staff are neither nifty nor cool.

Ebony was a part of Furrymuck since 1992, and over the years developed into her current, "geriatric"form.
Another Furrymuck friend, CJ Biro, whose character is Manfred, purchased the original and had Jim send it to me. Manfred is featured in the last panel.
Instead of being known and respected as someone who had both feet firmly planted in reality, Ebony was often chided for dealing reality checks to the clueless, accused of being heartless, and finally asked by a wiz to change her hug message so as not to thwap strangers who hugged her.

Also FurryMUCK was having problems with lag even back then - and the European furry community was just starting to form (first EuroFurence was in 1995), so a fast-running MUCK in Europe was something that many appreciated who were frustrated by slow overseas connections.
By the end of 1994, I got tired of the fact that the administration for the network I used refused to change a broken network bridge, and SPR moved to tigerden.com in Ohio, USA, run by Tigerwolf.
I keep coming back to SPR because of the friendly atmosphere and the lack of lag that FurryMUCK has and the fact that the wizzes and staff are *never* too busy to help someone when they need it.
